Watertown, MA USAAbout Empress:Empress is a privately-held early-stage biotech company advancing a proprietary platform to generate small molecule drugs faster and more predictably.About The Role:We are seeking an innovative Senior/Principal Scientist to contribute to the development and application of our multi-omics computational platform. In this role you will work closely with bench-side teams throughout the organization, as well as with other computational scientists. You will apply company pipelines to new and existing data sets across a range of instrumental platforms. You will conduct novel analyses, improve and extend our analytics capabilities, and bring new computational methods and tools to bear. You will need to bring a customer-facing mindset to execution, and a research-facing mindset to implementation. Your work will support key decision-making in late pre-clinical research.Key Responsibilities:Conduct analysis of multi-omic data to answer a wide array of biological questionsImprove and extend existing pipelinesIdeate and implement new computational approaches to novel scientific problems arising from company’s researchIdentify emerging methods and tools in computational approaches to sequence analysis and lead prototyping and implementation when applicableLead and collaborate closely with other scientists across teamReport results to the scientific team and the managementRequirements:PhD in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genomics, or a related discipline with 3-7 years post-PhD experienceProficiency in R (required) and Python (desired)Strong understanding of statistics and machine learning, including: GLMs, parametric, non-parametric statistics, classification methods, and unsupervised learningComputational systems biology background a strong plusDemonstrated research experience in transcriptomics and, ideally, other ‘omics modalitiesStrong understanding of fundamentals of molecular biologyStrong background in ‘omic methods including RNASeq workflows, both bulk and single cell including aspects related to QC.Strong visual communications – knowledge of ggplot2, shiny, or similar frameworks desiredExperience with HPC, including Nextflow and AWS tools a strong plusStrong communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough mannerAbility to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and technical settingPreferred Qualifications:Experience with MS based methodsExperience with single-cell ‘omicsExperience with deep learningAbout Flagship:Flagship Pioneering is a bioplatform innovation company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability.
