Hawkins Parnell & Young, LLP's Chicago office seeks a highly-motivated litigation attorney with 1-2 years of experience, preferably in product liability, premises and/or mass tort defense. The attorney's case load will include matters pending throughout Illinois, with the potential to join national litigation teams. The attorney will defend product manufacturers in mass tort, which may include asbestos, hair relaxer and talc litigation. Additional defense opportunities include gig-economy, transportation and municipalities. The successful candidate must be licensed in Illinois and reside in the Chicago area, have strong academic credentials, and a willingness to learn, collaborate and gain trial experience from a dedicated and successful litigation team.HPY offers a competitive salary complemented by a comprehensive benefits package including subsidized Medical Insurance, Vision Plan, Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, 401k, Short- and Long-Term Disability and Profit Sharing. HPY offers hybrid opportunities for those employed more than six months and meeting performance expectations (three days in the office, two remote). Trial preparation, including strategy discussion, discovery, records review, client interviews and witness preparationResearch, both legal and factual investigationDrafting of briefs, memos, and client updatesAttendance at depositions, hearings, and mediationsAbility to work in the Chicago loop office as well as to travelClosely collaborating with national counsel teams and especially HPY's St. Louis and Detroit attorneysSkills and Educational Requirements:
Actively licensed and in good standing in Illinois; Michigan and/or Missouri license also preferredPrevious litigation experience required, including deposition and courtroom experienceParticipation in law review and/or moot court are a plusExcellent academic credentials and strong writing, analytical, and communications skills, writing sample requiredAbility to thrive in a high-paced environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, juggling priorities, and adhering to strict deadlinesMust be a self-starter who can handle multiple projects with competing demands and understand the importance of deadlinesClient-focused mentalityTakes initiatives and welcomes challengesAbility to work flexibly and independently within a strong teamPays attention to detailTechnologically savvy, with experience in Microsoft Office, ExcelIntellectually curious, keeping current on litigation trends and recent legal opinions*Active Illinois Bar License Required
