About this position:
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support the Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO), the organization responsible for DoD travel policy, regulations, and travel management system oversight. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain systems critical to managing and optimizing the DoD’s travel programs. This role involves engineering efforts for the Defense Travel System (DTS), ensuring system security, efficiency, and compliance with DoD standards and policies.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
Design, develop, and maintain the Defense Travel System (DTS) and associated technologies, ensuring they meet operational and security requirements.
Ensure compliance with DoD security standards, such as DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) and DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF).
Conduct systems testing and performance evaluations, identifying areas for improvement and recommending changes.
Participate in troubleshooting and incident management for system outages or critical vulnerabilities.
Provide input for future systems design and planning to ensure DTMO systems remain modern, secure, and effective.
Support the configuration management, monitoring, and tuning of travel-related IT systems, ensuring adherence to DoD cybersecurity protocols.
Required Education/Qualifications:
Clearance: Top-Secret security clearance, fully adjudicated.
Certifications: Security+ CE Certified.
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, preferably in a DoD or federal government environment.
Experience with systems integration, cloud technologies, and virtualization.
Familiarity with DoD security protocols, including DISA STIGs, RMF, and FISMA requirements.
Proficiency with systems management tools, such as Microsoft Windows Server, Linux/UNIX, VMware, and cloud platforms like AWS or Microsoft Azure.
Strong analytical skills and experience with troubleshooting and performance optimization of large systems.
Knowledge of networking concepts, data storage, and cybersecurity principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting or working within the Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO) or other DoD travel-related systems.
Knowledge of DTS, Global Distribution Systems (GDS), or other travel management software used within the DoD.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and experience working in Agile project environments.
Experience with systems automation and DevSecOps tools, including CI/CD pipelines.
Certifications: CISSP or AWS Solutions Architect, preferred
Minimum Security Clearance Requirement:
DoD Top Secret security clearance
