Position Summary
The HR Director will oversee all aspects of human resources practices and processes, as well as oversee the HR Manager to ensure day-to-day operations are functioning. This role is responsible for overseeing activities such as employee relations, performance management, training & development, leave of absence, compensation/benefits, and talent management. The HR Director will ensure the company's HR needs are met efficiently, legally, and in alignment with the overall business strategy. This role will work closely with Glovis America to ensure a continuous and streamlined relationship between both parties.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Management
Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.
Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across the organization.
Maintain company organization charts and employee directory.
Develop initiatives to foster a positive work environment, improve employee morale, and promote employee engagement and satisfaction.
Talent Acquisition and Retention
Oversee the recruitment and selection process to attract, hire, and retain the best employees.
Follow DOT hiring guidelines to ensure driver qualification is upheld in each hire.
Oversee the development of job descriptions, job advertisements, and employment branding.
Ensure interviews are conducted, negotiate job offers, and manage onboarding processes as needed.
Employee Relations and Performance Management
Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
Provide support and guidance to HR, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
Training and Development
Identify and assess future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual performance appraisals, and consultation with line managers.
Develop and implement training programs to ensure employee development and compliance with industry regulations.
Monitor and evaluate training programs to ensure they are current and effective.
Develop training materials and performance management programs to help ensure employees understand their job responsibilities.
Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
Maintain pay plan, create pay philosophy and benefits program.
Manage the 401k enrollments.
Assess and ensure the company’s compensation and benefits are competitive and aligned with industry standards.
Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
HR Policy Development and Implementation
Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Ensure all HR policies are communicated to employees and are consistently applied.
Create and publish working handbooks and policies, ensuring all policies are in compliance with employment regulations.
Oversee the course of all leave of absence and workers compensation cases.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable OSHA safety regulations.
Develop and implement health and safety programs and policies.
Conduct regular audits to ensure workplace safety and compliance with company policies and government regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
DOT industry experience preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in human resources management, with at least 6 years in a leadership role.
Proven experience in developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that align with business goals.
In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
Experience in the transportation or logistics industry is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in HRIS and other HR-related software applications.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage time effectively.
