Job DescriptionThe office of Analytics and Institutional Effectiveness (A&IE) is seeking an experienced data architect to join the Data and Analytics Infrastructure team (DAI). The A&IE office provides insights, information, and intelligence derived from institutional data, as well as support for the design and implementation of assessment strategies. The Data Architect will support this mission with a robust data strategy to ensure high data quality, effective data storage, and well-defined data governance. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to higher education and professional development. Responsibilities for the Data Architect include:Collaborate with data scientists to understand the data and define best practices for processing, cataloging, and analyzing the dataManage, troubleshoot, and optimize extract, transform, and load (ETL) workflowsDesign and implement a data lineage solution to track the lifecycle of the dataReview and implement policies to ensure the privacy and security of the dataEnsure data is processed and stored in a way to support various use-cases, including AI applicationsManagement and design of databasesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, data science or a related fieldSeveral years of professional experience as a data engineer or data architectExperience designing and managing large ETL workflowsProficiency in Python and data science packages such as Pandas and NumpyGood understanding of multiple types of databases: relational, vector, graph, documentGood understanding of various types of data storage methodsExperience preparing and optimizing data for generative AI applicationsExperience with data lineage tools and frameworksPassion for implementing industry standards and best practicesEffective verbal and written communication skillsPreferred QualificationsWillingness to learn and experiment with new technologiesStrong experience with Apache AirflowExperience in the AWS ecosystemStrong knowledge of data processing optimization tools and techniquesExperience administering PostgreSQL relational databasesAbility to build insights and visualizations based on business questions and available dataPay Band{lPayScaleID}Appointment TypeRegularSalary Information80,000Review DateOctober 28, 2024Additional InformationThe successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.About Virginia TechDedicated to its motto,
