Successful candidates for this position will be a Principal or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer within the Tactical Space Division at Northrop Grumman Space Systems located in Dulles, VA and Gilbert, AZ. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting space flight programs designed to further Civil and Commercial Space (CCS) technology to support human exploration, communication, science and research as well as support space logistics.
The Principal or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting key Systems Engineering (SE) deliverables as part of a Co-Manifested Vehicle (CMV) Integration Team. The integrated team will incorporate the direction and results of a multi-disciplined engineering development of the space system architecture & elements. The Principal or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer is expected to contribute to the successful completion of the program by supporting in a Test Planning role as well as support and incorporate new company and industry driven technologies. The Principal or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer is expected to contribute to the completion of specific programs and projects, as well as serving as a frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide support to Test Planning activities on a module integration team
Writing and/or executing an Integrated System Test Plan, Qualification Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports
Developing and managing Test Like You Fly (TLYF) Exceptions
Interfacing with customer counterparts to develop a multi-organizational Test Strategy
Collaborate with the Mechanical, Electrical and Logic leads to ensure Test designs are captured and baselined, drive consistent approaches for test definition and control, ensure comprehensive review and release of test documentation with all stakeholders, and identify test gaps.
Interface with external stakeholders, including government furnished equipment (GFE) providers, the Launch Vehicle provider, partner contractors, and the customer to accomplish these duties.
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 5 years of applicable experience, or Masters degree with 3 years of applicable experience.
Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 8+ years of experience, Master’s Degree and 6+ years of experience; or a PhD and 4+ years of experience
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD security clearance
Proficiency in related engineering programs, Microsoft Office or equivalent document generation programs, Microsoft SharePoint or equivalent collaboration tool, Requirements management tool DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler or other Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) like tools
Experience in mechanical, electrical, and Logical interfaces.
Preferred Qualifications:
5 or more years of applicable experience in a technical field with a preference of production or hardware development in the Aerospace industry
Experience interfacing with different engineering disciplines to achieve program objectives
Authoring and releasing interface control documentation like ICDs/IDDs/IRDs
Experience writing and/or executing an Integrated System Test Plan, Qualification/Acceptance Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports
Participating in or overseeing spacecraft testing, including Thermal Vacuum, Integration Functional Tests, Simulator/Emulator Testing, and Mechanical Environments
Salary Range:
$107,300 - $160,900
Salary Range 2:
$133,000 - $199,600
