Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, a related field or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in an applied research setting, or similar.
Experience analyzing attitudinal and behavioral data using statistical software packages (R, Matlab, SPSS, etc).
Experience conducting user and operator workload research in safety-critical environments (auto, aviation, healthcare, etc).
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience conducting UX research on products and working with executive leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
3 years of experience managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization.
Experience in communicating user research findings with cross-functional partners to drive impact and product strategy.
Experience in automotive and driver distraction research, including compliance testing (e.g., eye-tracking, driving simulator, etc).
Understanding of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.

As a User Experience Researcher (UXR), you’ll help your team of UXers, product managers, and engineers understand user needs. You’ll explore user behaviors and motivations by conducting primary research such as field studies, interviews, diary studies, participatory workshops, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis.

Geo driver safety UXRs ensure products can be used easily while driving. Researchers draw on industry-standard distraction guidelines to design and conduct mixed-methods research (e.g., auto simulators, eye-tracking, etc.) to make Geo’s mobile and in-car products better for drivers.
The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
Design and facilitate studies and analyze user behavior and operator workload, including lab studies, on-road evaluations (as both driver and passenger), surveys, benchmark studies, and driver distraction evaluations, leveraging industry standard methods (e.g., cognitive load, eye-tracking, driving simulator, etc).
Work with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers and other User Experience Researchers (UXRs) to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Understand and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research.
Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and in-person presentations.
Conduct research on multiple aspects of products and experiences.
