Summary:
Delivering healthcare against the headwinds of cost inflation outpacing reimbursement and external market pressures requires sophisticated planning and execution. The Sr Consultant Strategy Planning & Optimization is a member of Brown University Health’s Strategy Planning and Optimization team, an internal team of consultants providing advisory and project management support to high priority initiatives across clinical and business domains. Team members may work on annual and long-term strategic planning integration initiatives and operational transformation projects. Potential project examples include ambulatory operational planning, new business development, real estate optimization, and process improvement.
The Strategy Planning and Optimization department reports into Brown University Health’s Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. The Sr Consultant Strategy Planning & Optimization serves as a team lead working simultaneously on multiple projects of moderate to high complexity. This role will serve as a key partner to senior leadership including corporate leaders, divisional Presidents, and their senior management teams in the development and management of complex, highly visible system-wide initiatives. This role requires a foundational understanding of the health care industry and robust skill sets in the areas of analytics, planning, healthcare finance, project facilitation, and driving to decisions. This role will report to the Director of Strategy Planning and Optimization.
Responsibilities: Manages all aspects of client relationships throughout a project including initiation, execution, and closure/hand off to operational teams.
Expert in synthesizing complex and ambiguous data (qualitative or quantitative) and leadership vision into coherent insights and actionable business narratives that guide decision-making.
Displays strong leadership skills including the ability to motivate teams and individuals through influence, demonstrating a strong capacity for collaboration & promotion of shared mission and goals.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative market research and financial analyses to support business plan development.
Build business cases, pro formas, and present recommendations with supporting data to key stakeholders.
Identifies potential business and financial impacts associated with program planning or expansion as well as required implementation dependencies, issues, and risks to serve as input to prioritization and planning process.
Facilitates project-related meetings and discussions, helping to create an atmosphere of curiosity and teamwork and effectively brings discussions to resolution.
Supports the work of cross-functional project-related committees, workgroups, and teams to drive decision-making and support effective communication.
Consistently displays a strong attention to detail and produces on-time, high-quality executive level presentations and deliverables.
Effectively prioritizes projects to complete work within established guidelines and timeframe.
May be paired with Project Managers on the team to oversee the work, act as a mentor, and provide constructive feedback as needed.
Leads department initiatives to maintain data integrity across multiple databases.
Supports the execution of Certificate of Need (CON) or Determination of Need (DON) submission when applicable.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Information: EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MPH, or Masters in a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
5+ years’ experience in management consulting, strategic planning, and financial analysis or related field.
Deep understanding of academic health systems, care delivery market, and expertise in analysis of healthcare market data.
High energy strategic thinker with track record of structuring ambiguous problems and taking action to solve them.
Passionate about data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
Superior project management skills including ability to frame project plans and manage multiple workstreams.
Verified skills in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint), statistical analysis, and data visualization (PowerBI or Tableau).
