Mohawk Opportunities, Inc, a Schenectady, NY based nonprofit, is seeking a Director of Finance who will report directly to the CEO. The Director of Finance will plan and direct the fiscal functions of the agency; be the staff liaison to the Finance and Audit committee; and oversee the functions of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger. As a member of the Leadership team, the Director of Finance contributes to and manages all analysis and reporting of financial information and will present findings and make recommendations to department managers. Specific duties include:Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.Evaluates and advises on the impact of new strategies, programs, and regulatory actions.Oversees the production of monthly financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).Monitor income and expenditures by cost centers. Review monthly expenditures to ensure they are correctly classified and assigned to the correct cost center. Review information with applicable Leader and other impacted staff.Annually, collaborates with the CEO to develop a proposed annual budget for the consideration of the Executive and Finance/Audit committees, which ultimately be presented to the board of directors for approval.Prepares timely and accurate analysis of financial reports, budgets, cash forecasts and financial trends to measure the agency’s performance and assist the CEO, Board and Finance Committee in performing their responsibilities.Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.Manages cash and investments in accordance with the agency’s investment policy guidelines and budget. This includes managing the agency’s operating and representative accounts, ensuring their accuracy and that they are earning competitive interest rates.Develops and maintains relationships with external business partners such as financial institutions, insurance brokers, investment advisors, regulatory agencies, vendors, community partners and other stakeholders, as needed.Provides oversight of contract administration, including leases and grant submissions.Prepares the CFR and other financial and statistical reports required by funding sources.Assumes ownership of agency financial systems, continuously evaluates functionality, and leads upgrade initiatives.Provides direct supervision of the Accounting Department (Accountant and Accounting Assistant) to ensure continued professional development.RequirementsSkills/Qualifications for the Director of Finance include:Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required, MBA or master’s degree in related field preferred.Minimum of 3 years of fiscal management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to clearly present and explain complex issues.Results oriented focus and excellent communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.Salary and Schedule of the Director of Finance40 hours per week.
