Senior Staff Accountant
on our Finance team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring three days a week in the office.As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will utilize Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), AMA processing standards, and best practices to perform accounting activities and analyses associated with AMA's businesses. Related activities include accounting structure maintenance in licensing software, recording business transactions, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing revenue and trend analyses, and accruals as required. Recommend and maintain accounting department policies and procedures.RESPONSIBILITIES:Financial Accounting & AnalysisCoordinate with business to ensure that agreements and customer reporting are processed and reconciled timely to generate and post receivables.Identify, upload and apply cash receipts daily to posted receivables.Prepare monthly aging reports for Accounting and Operations management; follow up on delinquent accounts per policy.Coordinate invoice distribution on selected accounts.Perform monthly analyses and analyze trends on selected accounts.Perform month-end close and analysis activities related to publication licensing revenues.Ensure new pricing models are created and tested in the royalty accounting software.Resolve unapplied cash and unposted receivables with business units.Record expenses and recognize revenue on selected activities in accordance with GAAP.Prepare, process and/or review complex monthly journal entries to the appropriate general ledger account ensuring that proper accounting policies and procedures are strictly followed.Accounting OperationsCross train and provide support on other major revenue streams of the business including analyzing licensing of data files and sales of physical books.Utilize database table structures and queries to implement process improvements and supplement management reporting.Maintain files for audit and reporting ensuring all documents are compliant with department policies and government rules and regulations where appropriate.Evaluate, recommend, maintain, and follow accounting department policies and procedures.May include other responsibilities as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant degree required; CPA preferred.5+ years of professional experience with revenue and/or general accounting activities required or comparable experience.Current knowledge of generally accepted principles (GAAP).Experience in accounting transaction operations supporting revenue preferred.Proven experience with financial information systems including Oracle Hyperion, SmartView/Essbase, Blackline, Lawson, or similar applications/tools. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).Highly proficient communication and analytical skills required.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others at all levels within an organization.Demonstrated ability to work independently in a demanding environment.Highly attentive to details, organized and effective at managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.The American Medical Association is located at 330 N.
