The Head of East Zone, Excess Casualty will lead, manage, maintain and develop an Underwriting unit to profitably achieve Excess Casualty North America’s strategic and financial objectives in compliance with established policies and guidelines. This includes the underwriting of Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability with capacity up to $50 million for risks segmented as Large Commercial.

The role holder manages an underwriting territory to meet P&L budgetary requirements and performance metrics for the specific territory as well as supporting AXA XL’s overall regional objectives.

The role holder must possess broad technical expertise across many classes of business and may personally handle the more complex risks within the territory. They have and maintain extensive contacts with major insureds, retail agents and brokers throughout the Eastern Zone and nationally.

The role holder directly leads a team of Underwriters and coordinates with support staff facilitating professional development of skills, knowledge and competencies across the unit.

The Head of Eastern Zone, Excess Casualty joins the Americas Casualty Leadership team and is involved in setting the overall casualty strategy with other LT members.

The role holder supports AXA XL’s cross-sell objectives by understanding capabilities across other lines of business and maintaining open communication with colleagues in other departments.

Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics including est. GWP of $150MM or higher.

Manage and develop a team of Underwriters consisting of 13 or more people.

Manage insured and producer relationships across a large geographic territory.

Maintain visibility in the market by aggressively marketing to insureds and retail agents and brokers.

Leadership responsibilities.

You will report to the Chief Underwriting Officer, Casualty, Americas.

Technical experience needed for role.

Bachelor’s Degree required; professional designations CPCU, ARM preferred.

Extensive Casualty Underwriting experience required, preferably Umbrella and Excess Liability.

Moderate Management prior experience.

Broad knowledge of casualty lines of business: GL, AL, WC, Umbrella; reinsurance concepts and business processes.

Knowledge of functionality of systems.

Excellent work ethic.

Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

Self-Motivated.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.

Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.

Excellent time management skills; ability to multitask.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 186,000 – 279,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location.
