The Town is governed by a Board of six Trustees and the Mayor. The Mayor is elected at-large for a four-year term and the Trustees are elected at-large for staggered four-year terms of office.
The Town Administrator serves at the Board’s pleasure and oversees nine (9) FTEs including the Finance Director position.
The Finance Director serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team helping guide policy for the organization forward.
The Town is comprised of 183 full time staff members and 11.7 FTE (full time equivalent) seasonal/part time staff and is one of the largest employers in the Estes Valley.
In a recent Organizational Culture Survey, employees cited their workplace being enjoyable and work rewarding as the highest scoring question.
About the PositionThe Finance Director position is a working Director position.
Not only will this position oversee all aspects of the Town’s budget, accounting services, and audit, it will also help with day-to-day operations, including accounting functions like journal entries, as needed.
The Finance Director must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues in different departments, Finance Department staff, the Town Board, and the community.
The successful candidate will be able to balance a focus on the day-to-day details of the Town’s finances with the need to create and communicate a broader, long-term strategic vision for the organization’s finances.
The Finance department has 8 FTE with the Finance Director directly overseeing two direct reports, the Accounting and PR Manager and the Utility Billing Supervisor.
The department is close, not only physically in proximity of offices but in camaraderie and collaboration between staff.
We are seeking a Finance Director who has the technical skills necessary to lead the organization through sound fiscal management and who has the skills and ability to effectively manage staff.Upcoming Opportunities & Challenges:
Continuing to implement a new ERP system (the Town has entered into a contract with Tyler Technologies as our new ERP with expected implementation date in 2026).Issuing an RFP and selecting a new HRIS system within this calendar year.Building staff trust and demonstrating leadership.Enhancing intra- and interdepartmental communication.
Minimum and Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration or related fieldEight years professional budgetary and fiscal experience in a public or private operation of moderate size and complexityFour years of supervisor experience in a financial/accounting environment.Any equivalent combination of education and experience approved at the discretion of the Town Administrator.Valid Colorado Driver’s LicenseCPA preferred.Experience working in a municipality is highly desirable.
Benefits and SalaryThe full salary range for this position is $131,081 – 190,068 annual equivalent.
The Town has a market-based compensation program as well as a merit program, both are pending Town Board approval as part of the annual budget adoption.
