DESCRIPTION:
The New Hope UMC Finance Director is charged with accounting and managing church funds, keeping appropriate and accurate financial records, and making financial reports to the church. The Finance Director ensures that the church's financial operations run smoothly. Both laypersons and clergypersons are encouraged to apply.RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides oversight of the church finances to manage cash flow, income, and expenses.Completes accounts payable and receivable reporting, payroll, purchasing, receipting, and disbursements utilizing financial management software.Prepares a monthly financial report in a timely fashion (typically within two weeks after the end of the month).Assists with required reports for annual Charge Conferences and end-of-year Conference statistics.Works with the church staff and Finance Committee on the creation and implementation of stewardship programs and the setting of the annual budget.Assists the church staff in managing ministry budgets by providing monthly reports on expenses.Schedules the annual audit of the church finances.Ensures all tax reports are paid promptly and filed on time.Coordinates and gathers information for annual Workers’ Compensation Audit.Attends regular meetings of the Finance Committee and the Administrative Council and meets with other councils, committees, and task forces as needed.Maintains financial records and payroll for the Children’s Day Out program.Supervises the preparation and mailing of quarterly & annual contribution reports.Stays current with professional continuing education requirements/certifications, if applicable.Performs other similar duties as requested by the Executive Pastor or Finance Committee.QUALIFICATIONS:An earned degree in accounting, finance, or a similar discipline.Hands-on experience in business management and accounting of church finances.Strong interpersonal skills and communication.Current with professional continuing education requirements/certifications, if applicable.The ability to work within a Christian local church environment.REQUIREMENTS:Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.Proficiency with recommended financial and church database software.Hours of employment:
This full-time position requires a minimum of 32 work hours/week overall.A minimum of 24 hours/week is required on campus:
Sunday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PMMonday through Thursday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PMEvenings and weekends are occasionally required to attend on-campus church committee and council meetings or finish calendar-specific deadlines. These will typically be scheduled in advance.
