Job Description Summary: The Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine department strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the department continues to have a long and successful record in training undergraduate, master, and graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. This position is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising research at a high level by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. Using extensive experience and judgment, this role will plan independent research, analyze and interpret data, publish results, represent the university at conferences and meetings, develop new theories and methodologies, and lead and direct the work of lower-level research staff while transferring technical expertise. This Research Scientist is responsible for planning, conducting, and supervising research at a high level by using cell and molecular, bioinformatic, and animal approaches. The candidate will be involved in studying NIH-funded projects by focusing on anti-cancer drug resistance, drug discovery, DNA repair, and protein modification using both in vivo and in vitro tools. The candidate is also expected to mentor junior postdocs as well as students. The candidate will participate in the weekly lab meeting, bi-weekly research/publication meetings, collaborator meetings, and present and discuss the research progress with the PI. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Master’s degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college-level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Preferred Qualifications
Candidate with previous Post Doc training experience in cell and molecular biology and animal models desired. II. POSITION INFORMATION
