The Assistant Director manages the process of identifying, qualifying, and personally soliciting and cultivating a portfolio of 350-450 corporate and individual donors with potential corporate connections that have the capacity to give $1,000 or more to Dana-Farber, and works closely with colleagues within the Foundation Relations, Corporate Partnerships, and the Jimmy Fund to coordinate prospect management activity. Works to grow overall corporate revenue through other Annual Giving programs. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals. Dana-Farber is pursuing an ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign. This $2 billion campaign is the largest in the Institute’s history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer. Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign will accelerate the Institute’s strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities—helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer. This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island. Some evening events are required and additional evening and weekend work may be required during peak times. Local travel, primarily within MA and New England. Resume and cover letter required with application submission. Responsibilities:

Personal Corporate Solicitation Participate in visits, asks, and stewardship of Annual Giving donors with a corporate focus, including individual donors who may have a connection to a corporate or organizational prospect. Personally solicit 6-10 prospects per month (80+ donor visits per year). Identify and research prospects; solicit prospects for increased leadership level commitments ($1,500+); make leadership level asks; qualify and steward donors toward greater involvement within the Division; prepare and submit proposals; cultivate prospects; track results. Oversee and manage Annual Giving component of corporate donor assignment process, including bi-monthly review of prospects and accurate coding of prospect records in the Philanthropy database. Utilize direct mail, phone, e-mail, or volunteers for solicitation or cultivation as appropriate. Keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at Dana-Farber. Generate lists for donor visit requests and conduct visit calls and e-mails. Schedule donor visits. Draft donor correspondence and proposals. Shared management of one Assistant alongside an Assistant Director and Senior Assistant Director of Prospect Management. Assign projects, train, motivate, evaluate. Reporting

Report progress on goals & responsibilities to the department; produce analysis of personal solicitation effectiveness and program results. Coordinate with Information Systems staff for reporting and prospect tracking. Generate Call Reports. Other Activities as Needed

Participate as needed in Division of Philanthropy team efforts including solicitation strategy teams for key prospects and internal planning efforts. Ad-hoc projects. Other responsibilities as assigned. Responsible for assisting the entire department with reaching financial goals. Reports to the Senior Associate Director, Annual Giving. Supervision of one shared Assistant alongside an Assistant Director and Senior Assistant Director of Prospect Management. Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required plus 5-7 years of experience in development/fundraising or sales, including a minimum of 1 year of personal solicitation experience. Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work with a variety of constituencies, including donors, volunteers, and DFCI staff. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and development databases. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills. Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals. Ability to work in a collegial manner with the Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund Division of Philanthropy team in creating and implementing solicitation strategies. Willingness to travel, primarily in MA/New England. A significant portion of our donor base is grateful patients and families. A high degree of empathy and sensitivity is required. This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify donors and participants in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse constituencies is a plus.
