Central Operations & Partners consists of our Brand & Communications, Community, Facilities, Finance, Infrastructure/IT Operations/Business Systems, Initiative Operations, People, Real Estate/Workplace/Facilities/Security, Research & Learning, and Ventures teams. These teams provide the essential operations, services, and strategies needed to support CZI’s progress toward achieving its mission to build a better future for everyone.

The OpportunityThe Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team is a small high energy group within the Finance team, providing finance partnership to leaders across all CZI initiatives and functions. We provide analysis to support strategic decisions, conduct financial reviews of various business issues, and manage financial processes such as planning, forecasting, reporting, and measuring initiatives' performance.

This is a newly created role, which will jointly support the CZI Science Initiative, and report to the Senior Director, Finance for Science. This person is a highly motivated team player with excellent business partnering skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross functionally to lead as a Finance Manager.

What You'll Do

Support the Annual Planning and mid-year reforecast process in partnership with the Science Initiative

Closely manage and track spending against budget for grants, headcount, and Opex. Identify risks and communicate, as appropriate

Provide insightful, high-quality financial reporting to Science Initiative monthly, including budget vs actuals analysis

Support the monthly close for the Science Initiative, including calculating accruals for opex spend and partnering with the Accounting team on adjustments

Perform financial due diligence on Science grants

Manage the financial aspect of the large Science Grants portfolio

Build and continually improve the financial planning processes and tools

Help optimize resourcing through data-driven financial analysis

Participate in cross-functional company teams on various projects, including system implementation, process improvements, and internal controls

What You'll Bring

10+ years of Finance/Accounting experience, including 5+ years of progressive experience in an FP&A role, ideally within a tech or biotech company or growth-stage start-up

Superior relationship-building and influence management skills in interactions with senior leaders, peers, and business partners

Exceptional analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills, Thinks critically.

Strong results orientation and bias to action

Self-starter who demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and maturity under pressure and anticipates and resolves problems before they develop

Ability to work in a dynamic environment and juggle competing priorities

Ideal to know Adaptive Planning. If not, need experience with comparable forecasting software (i.e. Cognos TM1, Hyperion Essbase, etc)

Ideal to know Workday Financials. If not, need experience with a comparable ERP system

Strong MS Excel skills.

Google Suite skills a plus (Sheets, Docs, Slides)

Desire to build for scale using technology solutions

Willingness to ask the tough questions and challenge the status quo

CompensationThe Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $135,000 - $203,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your location during the hiring process.
