The RoleWe're seeking a

Staff Front-End Engineer

to lead the development of our patient, partner, and internal-facing web applications. This role is crucial in creating intuitive, efficient, and responsive user interfaces that will directly impact our users' experience and our platform's success.

As a key technical leader on our front-end team, you'll drive architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and build high-performance, scalable, and accessible user interfaces that serve diverse user groups including rare disease patients, healthcare providers, researchers, and our internal teams.

Your work will be at the heart of our mission, translating complex health data and research findings into user-friendly interfaces that empower patients, facilitate groundbreaking research, and streamline our internal operations.

This is a

hybrid

role based out of our office in San Mateo, CA and requires

2-3 days

in office.

ResponsibilitiesArchitect and implement high-performance, scalable front-end solutions using modern web technologiesLead the design and development of reusable UI components and libraries to ensure consistency across our platformOptimize application performance, focusing on load time, responsiveness, and efficient resource usage, particularly crucial for our data-intensive healthcare applicationsCollaborate with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and mockups into responsive, interactive features that meet the needs of rare disease patients, healthcare providers, and researchersImplement and maintain robust front-end testing strategies, including unit tests and end-to-end tests, to ensure the reliability of our critical health-related applicationsStay current with front-end best practices, emerging technologies, and industry trends, particularly those relevant to healthcare and scientific research applicationsWork closely with back-end engineering teams to integrate front-end applications with APIs and services, ensuring seamless data flow and functionalityContribute to the development of our front-end infrastructure, including build processes, deployment strategies, and development tools

Must-Have Skills

7+ years of experience in front-end development, with a focus on complex single-page applications (SPAs) and a proven track record of launching consumer-facing productsExpert-level proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and modern CSS (including CSS-in-JS solutions)Strong understanding of web performance optimization techniques, scalability, and securityExperience with front-end testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress)

Preferred Skills

Experience with state management solutions (e.g., Redux, MobX, or Recoil)Familiarity with modern build tools, module bundlers, and CI/CD pipelinesKnowledge of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibilityProven track record of high-quality coding and architectural designPassion for creating exceptional consumer experiences, especially in the healthcare or health tech spaceAt Citizen Health, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
