This position is an impactful and strategic role for Optum Health (including Optum Care, Care Solutions, Home & Community, SCA and LHC) leading a team of compliance professionals focused on operating an effective compliance program and providing strategic leadership to our business partners. This position reports to the Optum Chief Compliance Officer and will partner closely with the other Optum business compliance leaders and the UHC and UHG compliance leadership teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

Create and drive comprehensive compliance strategy for Optum Health; collaborate with enterprise compliance and business partners on implementing that strategy

Provide leadership and guidance to Optum Health executive leadership and business teams on compliance, ethics and regulatory issues to reduce risk and enable broader business growth objectives.

Create strategy to establish and measure a top-down culture of compliance and ethics; partner with Optum Health business leadership to further enhance culture of compliance throughout Optum Health organizations

Manage large team of compliance professionals dedicated to Optum Health compliance

Accountable for the Optum Health compliance function, supported by non-integrated compliance teams, to deliver an effective compliance program designed to detect, prevent and correct compliance issues including:

Develop, implement, and update as needed policies, procedures, processes, and best practices across Optum Health to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations

Develop, implement, and update as necessary training, awareness and educational materials and programs to support compliance, ethics and privacy agendas

Conduct routine monitoring and annual compliance risk assessments working with enterprise risk management, internal audit and other stakeholders

Enforce standards through well-publicized disciplinary guidelines in partnership with the People team and other stakeholders

Respond promptly to detected offenses and undertake corrective action

Identify relevant information to provide analysis for executive leadership and board of directors/audit committee reporting

Manage communications, issue resolution and overall compliance engagement with regulators on behalf of Optum Health businesses in partnership with legal and business teams

Collaborate with business, operations and other functional areas to review, analyze and develop/oversee initial implementation project plans and/or corrective action plans to ensure compliance with new or existing laws and regulations and company, customer and accreditation requirements

Influence, lead and collaborate with enterprise legal and compliance partners and with matrixed business partners across the enterprise

Required Qualifications:

JD or other relevant advanced degree preferred or at least 10 years of relevant compliance and regulatory experience

5+ years of experience leading and implementing a comprehensive compliance program

5+ years of experience supervising a team

Advanced knowledge and experience working with healthcare providers and emerging compliance risks

Solid knowledge of compliance and regulatory matters relevant to the health care industry

Solid communication skills and business acumen

Experience working with senior executives

Self-starter with proven track record of driving results in heavily matrixed environment

Solid leadership skills with demonstrated ability in managing and developing others, including leading large teams

Collaborative, innovative, accountable and agile team leader

Excellent strategic decision-making, analytic, influence and communication (written and verbal) skills

The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. residents is $250,000 to $325,000 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
