Your ability to bring an authoritative voice in the field of computational design to the development of process, and the execution of deliverables, is the primary role required of this position. You will act as the primary point of contact for project requests in the computational realm and bring a variety of skills to bear to improve efficiency in geometry, process & workflow.In the periods between the primary role, there exists a secondary one; as part of a larger R&D group, CORE modeling is integral to the development of the future of means and methods in the AEC industry, with Thornton Tomasetti as our focus.For the technically minded, there are options for improving coding skills as assistant to a primary developer on some of the tools CORE studio is currently building. You would be attached to a team of developers, learning and building skills whilst contributing to the overall project.For the person with a ‘start-up’ mindset, there are options for Product Management roles, where researching the existing marketplace of ideas and identifying the best things for CORE studio to be working on now and in the future is an important role. With TT offices worldwide, visiting and maintaining relationships with key staff in those offices as current users of CORE studio tools is also considered as part of the role.At all times, a willingness to share and disseminate knowledge to the wider company is expected. You may host training sessions, or present interesting work to internal or external colleagues. As a computational leader, you will be answering questions from the TT community about best practices and how automation can help their projects be better.ResponsibilitiesAs part of a TT project team, communicate and coordinate with clients and consultants (e.g., TT Engineers, TT BIM staff, external architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of specific computational project goals and expectations.Develop custom solutions to geometry and data problems that arise on a building project, ranging from competition diagrams and visuals, to ready for fabrication 3D models.Integrate experience from project work and consultations with TT staff into the larger CORE studio team to help improve the toolboxes and apps currently available and those yet to be built.Develop training content based on computational techniques for dispersal to the wider firm to ensure as many staff as possible are exposed to the potential of computational design.RequirementsArchitecture / Structural degree preferred but not a requirement.5-7 years' experience in the AEC Industry, with a minimum of 4 focused on Computational Design.Advanced Grasshopper experience, with the ability to utilize various plugins and custom scripted components.Experience with Structural Analysis is a plus.Experience with creating parametric optimization workflows (Galapagos, Octopus etc.).Experience with project delivery, drawing set creation. Solid Revit experience will be a great benefit.Detail oriented, with good communication skills.West Coast candidates preferred as LA will be home office.Availability for occasional travel to other offices.CompensationThe rate for this position generally is $90,000 - $120,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful California applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in California or perform the position from California. Similar positions located outside of California will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by California Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law.
