The
Assistant Director, Community Grantmaking
will be responsible for implementing and managing participatory processes to inform several of the Boston Foundation’s responsive grantmaking programs including Open Door Grants, My Summer in the City, and Collaborate Boston. This person will also manage the Boston Neighborhood Fellows program. This role requires strong project and operational management skills, as well as a deep commitment and connection to communities that have been structurally and historically marginalized. Essential Functions
Operationalize and manage community processes to inform several grantmaking programs
Work with
Manager, Open Door Grants
and grants management staff to develop and communicate integrated processes for various programs (Open Door Grants, Collaborate Boston, My Summer in the City, Action Fund) Recruit and build relationships with nonprofit intermediaries and individual reviewers Resource and train intermediaries and reviewers for successful participation Manage and track participation and processes to inform continuous improvement in subsequent grant cycles
Manage and develop Boston Neighborhood Fellows (BNF) program which provides recognition and support to local leaders performing grassroots work
Forge relationships and connections with current class of fellows Working with
Grassroots Strategy Program Associate
and consultant, develop and implement curriculum and programming for current class of fellows Design and implement a BNF Alumni Council Serve as primary relationship manager and connector between the fellows and the Boston Foundation
Strengthen current evaluation practice
Building on current practice, and working with
Assistant Director, Data and Insight , refine and enhance data collection for major bodies of work outlined above: community grant processes and Boston Neighborhood Fellows
Represent TBF externally including speaking on panels and at community and sector events Participate in grant proposal review and recommendation process in collaboration with Foundation colleagues Supervise and collaborate with staff and consultants associated with the programs described above Qualifications
Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience: 8-10 years of relevant work experience required; Bachelor and/or Master’s degree or equivalent preferred Deep connection to and knowledge of local Greater Boston communities Ability to connect with and motivate a diverse range of people from different backgrounds and orientations Highly organized and proven ability to manage multiple strands of work and tight timelines in a high-pressure environment Deep understanding of, experience with and commitment to social justice work including grassroots nonprofits and leaders Demonstrated success managing teams, including the supervision and evaluation of staff and consultants Exceptional interpersonal, writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to serve as an external voice for the work of the Boston Foundation Understanding of and commitment to the Boston Foundation’s mission A resourceful self-starter, able to work and problem solve independently A participative work style and the ability to give and receive feedback Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for long periods of time Ability to use a computer monitor and keyboard for long periods of time Ability to carry up to 25 pounds To Apply
