SUMMARY: Participates in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement in the activities of the medical staff and clinical programs/services. Ensures that programs and services are congruent with Frontier Health’s mission, vision and values, and are compliant with CARF and other regulatory, contractual, or accreditation entities. The Senior Vice President is expected to interface with medical, business, and other caretaker/funding agency personnel at the local, state, or federal level as appropriate. Provides direct professional psychiatric services to patients as assigned to include psychiatric evaluation, forensic evaluations, case consultation, medication management and monitoring for side effects, and psychotherapy. The incumbent will also participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning at assigned locations as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Education: M.D. or D. O. degree required. Licensure: Must be Board Certified in psychiatry. Must possess current physician license and controlled substance license from Tennessee and Virginia. Keeps current forensic license in Tennessee. Certification: Must possess current Controlled Substances Registration Certificate for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Experience: Experience in psychiatric clinical practice required; supervision of medical services to include physicians preferred. Knowledge/Skills: Basic leadership and administrative skills. Knowledge of medication usage and interactions. Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Verbal/written communication skills.

EQUIPMENT: Computer, fax, copier and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLILITIES: 1. Selects, trains, disciplines and evaluates performance of employees. 2. Recommends pay adjustments for employees. 3. Organizes and schedules employee work activities. 4. Maintains a safe work environment by identifying and correcting potentially unsafe conditions and work practices. 5. Maintains a positive working climate within and across departmental functions. 6. Assists clinicians concerning clinical procedures and evaluation

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides general supervision of physician services. 2. Serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and performs all duties as specified in the Medical Staff Bylaws. 3. Participates in Performance Improvement, Credentialing, and Peer Review functions as specified by the Medical Staff Bylaws. 4. Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team. Participates in the planning, development, and implementation of clinical programs. 5. Advises the Corporate President/CEO on issues, concerns, and other matters pertaining to the medical staff to include compensation, complaints, duties, working conditions, continuing education needs, productivity, medical ethics, etc. 6. Assists in the implementation of the Corporate Compliance Plan to include training of medical staff as needed. 7. Participates in the Annual Needs Assessment and corporate Strategic Planning Process. 8. Serves as a member of the Performance Improvement Committee and participates in continuous quality improvement activities as appropriate. 9. Participates in the interviewing of all candidates for staff psychiatrist positions and other key medical staff positions. Reviews all new medical staff appointments. 10.Serves as a member of Supervised System of Care Credentialing Committee. 11.Serves as a member of the Medical Peer Review Committee. Participates in root case analysis as appropriate. 12.Works to assure continuous compliance with CARF and other accreditation, contractual, or regulatory authority standards. 13.Serves as liaison with Tennessee Medical Association, the Tennessee Psychiatric Association, Quillen School of Medicine, and other medical associations and training institutions as appropriate. 14.Attends Board of Directors meetings as requested. Provides reports as appropriate. 15.In collaboration with Senior Management and the assigned physician, coordinates the assignment, utilization and supervision of Advance Practice Nurses (CNS,NP). 16.In collaboration with Senior Management and the MEC, coordinates the selection, assignment, and supervision of psychiatric and/or family practice residents as appropriate.
