By focusing R&D efforts on four therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide.Join Takeda as an Associate Director where you will be a highly skilled and experienced structural biologist to join our newly established structural biology team in Cambridge, MA. With an expertise in X-ray crystallography, you will collaborate closely with biophysicists, medicinal and computational chemists, biologists, biologics experts and will be a valued contributor to project teams tasked with rapidly advancing biologics and small molecule drug discovery programs. As part of the structural biology team, you will report to the Head of the team and innovatively utilize, sustain and build-upon a sophisticated crystallographic pipeline, and liaise with the IT team and external vendors to further develop and implement our next-generation structure curation and storage solutions within Takeda.How you will contribute:

Demonstrate significant leadership and strategic thinking in prioritizing program need for structural biology, identify best path forward and deliver on the pipeline need in a timely manner.Demonstrate ability to play a leading role in driving the projects for both small molecule and biologics programs, set up short-term goals/direction for the team.Independently solve macromolecule structures of high-value targets relevant to drug discovery.Model, refine, and rigorously validate high-quality crystallographic models to rapidly enable structure-based drug design for downstream stakeholders.Effectively communicate structural data and its interpretation to diverse audiences emphasizing significance of the data to drive structure-based drug design.Work collaboratively on pipeline projects with an interdisciplinary group of both internal and external stakeholders including disease-area biologists, medicinal chemists, computational chemists, in vitro/in vivo pharmacologists, informatics specialists, DMPK experts, DSRE professionals, and project managers.Utilize a variety of software packages including: CCP4, HKL2000/3000, PHENIX, COOT, Chimera and Schrodinger packages to provide high-quality structural data for project teams.Work with external vendors and internal IT colleagues to administer, sustain, and innovatively build upon an established high-throughput cryo-EM and crystallography data collection and processing pipelines.Troubleshoot and identify novel solutions to challenging programs and projects.Act as a motivated leader of scientific research who can also work effectively and collegially in cross-disciplinary teams.Identify, plan, and execute novel scientific projects and occasionally manage the work of others in a direct or matrixed organizational structure.Stay current with technical skills and knowledge in structural biology and drug discovery.In strong partnership with line-management, manage new resourcing and structural biology requests, enabling impactful results in a timely manner that leverage SBDD tools and methodologies across both cryo-EM and X-ray.Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 7+ years experience, or MS with 13+ years experience, or BS with 15+ years experience.Demonstrate leadership and strategic thinking for driving structural biology projects, setting up team goals and meeting deliverables.Demonstrated track-record of rigorously and efficiently supporting high-quality structure determination of targets of interest using X-ray crystallography and potentially cryo-EM.Some experience with Python and shell scripting in a Linux environment.Demonstrated track-record of tackling difficult structural biology challenges using innovative and novel methodologies.Deep expertise in crystallographic software packages.Deep understanding of protein structure and function, with the ability to clearly communicate structural information and significance/interpretation to a broad audience of key stakeholders.Rigorous, exacting, organized, creative and innovative approach to scientific inquiry.Enthusiasm for structural biology, drug discovery, and collaboration in an industrial setting.Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality results within tight timelines, meeting and exceeding industry standards.Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.More about us:
