Overview and Responsibilities
CBS Detroit (WWJ-TV) and Detroit50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated in the #14 television market Detroit, is seeking an Executive News Producer to join our CBS Detroit News Team! The ideal candidate must have a clear vision of how to build a dynamic multi-platform newscast and communicate that vision to the team. This includes story development, script approvals, graphics, animation, and pre-production from inception of story to multi-platform delivery. We are looking for someone with a compelling and innovative voice in editorial meetings, capable of presenting important, original and engaging story pitches. This person must be an advocate for on-air/digital/streaming platforms.Come join our team!
Review and approve scripts and rundowns to ensure journalistic accuracy and quality in accordance with station mission.Daily review of news product before and after air to ensure shows meet and exceed the mission of impactful journalism, quality, accuracy, and stellar execution.Ensure thoroughness of coverage.Assist in evaluating, leading, and mentoring staff members to promote peak performance and efficiency.Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, team-oriented culture.Communicate and implement a creative vision for simulcasts and stream-only shows, helping drive compelling and engaging storytelling. Make crucial editorial decisions and streamline communication with the team throughout the newsroom and each daypart.Manage staff to ensure a high level of editorial and production uniformity. Build opportunities for the development and growth of staff members in a creative, collaborative environment. Must have strong team-building skills and work well with fellow producers and the rest of the newsroom.Help the reporting staff develop and enterprise story pitches applicable to the day's news topics and current issues. Stay up-to-date and monitor the day's news cycle, exchange ideas with newsroom management and other staff members, and collaborate with anchors, producers, and MSJs on story direction and production.Aggressively seek breaking news using adequate resources and streamlining the communication with the newsroom and the streaming and digital teams.Collaborate with streaming and digital teams to establish daily opportunities on all platforms.Perform other essential functions as assigned.Basic Qualifications
Non-Linear Editing skills.Knowledge of current events.Regularly demonstrates capabilities of a successful, people-first manager who champions constructive, impactful feedback.Strong breaking news skills and proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.A proven track record in news management, ideally with a minimum of three years in a medium to large market.Additional Qualifications
Motivated by results, innovative and demonstrate leadership and collaboration.Ability to incorporate social media and new technology into all the newscasts.Excellent organizational and communication skills.Phenomenal news judgement and writing skills.Bachelor's or technical degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or allied field preferred.
