Job Description - Sr. Interpreter/Translator (Bilingual - English/Arabic) - PRN (As Needed) - DC (240002O9)DescriptionUnder supervision, the Sr. Interpreter will provide language interpretation services to patients, families, and staff in critical, acute, or chronic medical situations as needed. Will provide services in person or telephonically to assist patients and families in their interactions throughout the hospital. Will assist the manager in program knowledge and initiatives.QualificationsMinimum EducationBachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience (Required)Master's Degree (Preferred)Minimum Work Experience2 years of experience as a medical interpreter in a clinical setting (Required)Required Skills/KnowledgeBilingual Language SkillsFluency in English and ArabicHighly proficient in medical terminologyRequired Licenses and CertificationsCertification in Medical Interpretation preferred or required within 1st year of employment (Required)Applicants must have completed 40-hour minimum training on Community of Medical Interpretation Skills (Required)Functional AccountabilitiesEliminates Language Barriers to Patient CareFacilitates communication among patients, families, and staff.Interprets directly and accurately, without omissions, additions, or interference with communication.Manages assignments independently without close supervision.Maintains professional role and sensitivity during critical medical and/or psychological situations; respects all parties in the discussion and their individual roles.Demonstrates accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication.Promotes Appropriate Utilization of Interpretation Services by StaffEducates staff in the process of how to appropriately request interpretation services.Communicates with staff about staff needs and patient/family needs.Works closely with other departments providing recommendations.Collaborates with the Manager of Patient and Family Education to develop and implement program guidelines, policies, and procedures with staff.Educates program staff on best practices and ensures educational requirements are met.Assists in the design, development, and coordination of training sessions, programs, and competency testing for staff.Contributes to a Well-Organized ProgramHelps to ensure interpretation assignments are coordinated accurately, effectively, and efficiently.Maintains required logs/tracking system in order to track project progress and productivity.Maintains departmental performance reports.Provides direct supervision to medical interpreter staff as assigned by manager ensuring medical interpreters meet performance requirements.Manages own time to be productive.Maintains archives and databases related to interpretation/translation projects.Distributes workload in the absence of the Language Services Manager.Performance Improvement / Problem SolvingIdentifies opportunities to improve clinical and administrative processes.Identifies and resolves issues, overcoming challenges.Makes appropriate decisions, using sound judgement.Communicates operational issues and progress towards goals to other members of the management team.Teamwork/CommunicationPartners with all team members to achieve goals.Works effectively with diverse groups.Demonstrates accountability for work.Shares and seeks knowledge and provides feedback to others.Receptive to others' ideas and opinions.Exemplifies CNMC Core Values of Compassion, Commitment, and Connection during interactions with internal and external customers.Project Coordination & FacilitationAssists with coordination and completion of projects (e.g., use periodic checks to assess and track the progress of a project's timeline and/or performance).Assists with budget reports, as needed.Applies substantive knowledge in order to assist and represent manager thoroughly in the scope, diversity, and complexity of project and organizational commitments.Primary Location
