Job Description:The Wall Street Journal is looking for a seasoned, creative and inspiring journalist to help lead our business coverage. The role of deputy corporate coverage chief at its heart is about helping editors and reporters around the world conceptualize, dig up and deliver best-in-class business journalism. In practice, the mission takes numerous forms -- identifying and leading projects and major coverage veins, strategizing on stories with reporters and editors and helping ensure we deliver every day for readers.You will have myriad responsibilities and opportunities. You will generate ideas and drive coverage. You will help lead efforts across bureaus, coverage areas and geographies, especially on complex stories that span teams. You will work with visual, audio, video and audience colleagues; help manage our planning; and edit copy. Your work also involves collaborating closely with editors across the Journal’s digital platforms, as well as top newsroom leaders, to ensure our business coverage satisfies our standards and enjoys the reach it deserves.We’re looking for an accomplished journalist with substantial experience covering business, finance or economics. You have a track record of delivering exclusive stories and distinguishing enterprise. You are creative and able to tackle topics with a fresh take or unconventional approach. You are a problem solver who helps smooth paths to success. You are well organized. You are a leader who inspires people and also a teacher who guides people. You are versatile as to subject matter and story format, you are eager to experiment with different approaches to reporting and presentation, and you are determined to help our work find its broadest audience.You will be based in New York and report to Jamie Heller, the Journal's corporate coverage chief.You will:Guide daily coverage, working with bureaus to break and jump on news and elevate stories;Help drive ideas with reporters and bureaus, and ensure stories and packages remain on track and on topic;Take responsibility for leading coverage of complex stories that cut across teams, ensuring we align resources, stay on news and deliver enterprise;Incorporate audience data into story planning and work with social, programming and audience colleagues to ensure maximum impact for our work.You have:Three-to-five years of experience in an editing role working with reporters and more than 12 years as a working journalist;Proven ability to drive coverage of complex business topics;Excellent editing and headline-writing skills;Coaching skills on and off-deadline;The ability to keep teams focused and positive and find solutions to problems.To apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter explaining how you would approach the job and examples of your work.Business Area:
