Position Summary:

The Philanthropy Director will develop and implement Girl Scouts of Orange County's (GSOC) major gift program to grow $10,000+ gifts. Philanthropy Director is responsible for managing relationships with current and prospective major donors and securing significant financial contributions to support GSOC program, capital campaigns, annual giving, and planned giving as it relates to individuals and family foundations. The role includes identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding GSOC members and volunteers and new and prospective individual and family foundation donors. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate GSOC's mission and vision is key, while cultivating long-term partnerships and engaging donors through specialized donor and stewardship strategies.

The Philanthropy Director manages assigned fundraising initiatives to ensure the achievement of annual goals and objectives, including Promise Circle membership of $10,000+, capital, program, annual campaign gifts of $10,000+, and Juliette Gordon Low Society for planned gifts. The Philanthropy Director collaborates with the Fund Development team to implement industry best practices and improve processes. There is a high level of collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fund Development Team, Board of Directors, Program Staff, and Marketing.

Here's What You'll Do:

Strategize:

Develop and implement individual giving and family foundation strategies to achieve annual campaign fundraising goals.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:

Create comprehensive annual plan to discover, identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and manage a portfolio of individual donors and family foundations through multifaceted personalized fundraising strategies for each donor including stewardship, data management, and fundraising events.

Organize and attend donor events, private gatherings, and other cultivation opportunities.

Major Gift Solicitation:

Create and present tailored proposals to secure major gifts, defined as gifts $10,000+. Collaborate with the Leadership Team, Board of Directors (board), and other stakeholders during the process.

Donor Research and Prospecting:

Conduct research to identify potential major gift donors. Use Raiser's Edge to track prospects, communications, and donations. Collaborate with Fund Development team to identify potential major gift donors from within membership and alum donors to grow engagement and pipeline for increased giving.

Ensure timely and personalized acknowledgement of all major gifts, developing ongoing stewardship plans to keep donors engaged. Track engagement and metrics. Assist the board and other staff with their solicitation of major gifts (e.g., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).

Collaborate:

Collaborate with Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for GSOC Special (Camp, New Program) and Capital Campaigns. Collaborate on building strategies and proposal materials for GSOC capital and special campaigns for major gift prospects. Help design and implement cultivation and stewardship events for major gift capital campaign and specialized campaign donors and volunteers.

Build Culture:

Promote and strengthen GSOC's Culture of Philanthropy.

Additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Here's What We're Looking For:

Bachelor's Degree or significant fundraising professional education required.

5+ years of Development experience with increasing responsibility in managing fundraising activities for 501(c)3 organizations.

CFRE membership preferred, but not required.

Proven success in securing major gifts of $10,000 or greater required.

Experience in Individual Giving, Major Gifts, Family Foundation and Planned Giving outreach required.

Good understanding of best practices in fund development and ability to apply them at GSOC.

Demonstrated success in implementing fundraising plans and campaigns.

Experience in relationship building and donor stewardship.

Proven ability to manage budgets and achieve exemplary expense ratios.

Experience in managing projects and volunteers.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Effective proposal writing experience. Able to provide samples of written work.

Proficiency in Raisers Edge/NXT or similar fundraising software.

Excellent computer skills including MS Office, internet research, and social media.

Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills.

Able to work collaboratively across departments to achieve all campaign and event goals.

Excellent ability to multi-task, with the flexibility to respond easily to changing business demands.

Community focused with energy and enthusiasm for building relationships with staff, volunteers, and current & potential supporters of Girl Scouts.

Active participant in professional, respectful, and constructive organizational culture.

Willingness to accept and promote the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement. Able to demonstrate and exemplify the qualities and actions outlined in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Current knowledge of Girl Scouts is preferred.

Ability to work effectively with individuals and teams, and willingness to work with people regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.

Licensed and insured California driver. Must be able to pass background screening, including driving records.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including attendance at some evening and weekend events.

Fluency in the English language required, with professional proficiency of a second language preferred.
