Job Overview
Macy's Director of Email Content Strategy oversees the editorial strategy for Macy's emails, quarterbacking campaigns from inception to execution in partnership with Merchants, Marketing Strategy, Creative, and Digital Customer & CRM Operations. This leader will drive revenue and increase customer lifetime value by building a strategy and deploying creative that balances product and offer promotion with compelling editorial and engaging experiences. The ideal candidate has deep experience in storytelling and email marketing, and is obsessed with following pop culture and style trends and can seamlessly synthesize them into must-open subject lines and relatable lifestyle content that inspire our target customers.
What You Will Do
Define and implement a performance-driven email editorial content strategy that engages our customers, inspires brand love, and drives sales on Macys.com
Create and oversee the email editorial calendar, ensuring alignment with Merchants, Marketing Strategy and Customer/CRM Operations needs that tie to Business KPIs
Manage a team of staff, freelances and production partners to craft compelling and engaging editorial that features relevant content that fits the brand's voice and style while still driving revenue; craft eye-catching subject lines, write and edit clear copy and direct Creative to build compelling designs that inspire customer action
Partner closely with our Merchandising team to identify and bring to life storytelling opportunities around our company, products and style trends
Develop a real-time optimization process that empowers the Editorial Marketing team to swiftly capitalize on trending sales results and/or cultural conversations to drive digital business KPIs
Partner with the Head of Social to align storytelling across owned and third-party platforms
Develop and execute content marketing partnerships with external vendors that drive earned media and sales
Use analytics tools to track email performance and synthesize insights to make informed decisions about future content strategy
Stay informed about the latest CRM technology, digital media trends and content best practices, and implement processes to improve our results
Perform additional responsibilities and participate in creative and technical projects as assigned
Skills You Will Need
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrates the ability to develop and implement long-term content strategies that align with consumer, cultural, and competitive market factors
Content Planning and Execution: Experience in architecting content strategies, planning, and managing editorial calendars, and leading the execution of digital touchpoints to drive engagement and sales
Trend Awareness: Stays up to date on style, commerce and digital trends and technologies to keep strategies relevant and effective
Analytical Skills: Proficiency in using digital analytics and insights to inform content strategies and measure performance. Ability to develop and manage a reporting system that communicates insights and metrics
Team Leadership: Proven track record of building, managing, and mentoring editorial and content marketing teams. Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop team members
Collaboration: Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Digital, Customer, Marketing, Project Management, and Site Merchandising teams to align strategies and achieve business goals
Innovation and Creativity: Champion of innovative and creative content solutions that drive business results. Encourages the team to take calculated risks and think outside the box
Project Management: Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely execution and alignment with business priorities
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effectively conveying content strategies, performance metrics, and insights to stakeholders
Customer Focus: Develops audience-first email strategies and content that engages and delights customers, inspiring them to shop
Vendor Management: Experience in developing and managing content marketing partnerships with external vendors to drive earned media, sales, and sponsorship revenue
Flexibility: Capable of creating quick-turn content as well as planning for long-term content initiatives
Results-Oriented: Proven track record of driving business results through strategic thinking, creativity, and innovation
Who You Are
Eight or more years of content marketing or editorial publishing experience, preferably with digital, retail or commerce background.
