Description: Position Overview:The Publicist is responsible for enacting publicity campaigns and for performance management, partnership management, and improving operational efficiency.
Publicists have the ability to manage title campaigns, consistently exceeding expectations and receiving a consistent level of national, specialist, and mainstream media coverage. They can competently navigate different regional media markets and achieve results globally. The Publicist manages several trade book publicity campaigns each season and manages their time effectively in order to oversee other responsibilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Manages the global publicity campaigns for approximately 10-13 each season including trade and SPL (seasonal priority).Instigates and manages seasonal meetings with key media and events contacts in the US.Travels regularly to major media hubs such as New York, London, Oxford, D.C., and L.A. to pitch the list and develop strategic alliances.Facilitates author tours and events programs as appropriate for their titles.Attends and leads sections of weekly team meetings and other relevant planning meetings.Oversees relationships with mainstream media and events contacts as well as partnerships with academic and publishing media.Assists the Global Publicity Manager in training new department members and mentoring junior staff.Other duties as needed or required.
Supervision Received: The Publicist will receive supervision from the Global Publicity Manager.
Supervision Exercised: None Requirements: Qualifications & Skills:EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years of PR or communications experience required.
SKILLS:
Proven track record in managing successful publicity campaigns.Media contacts across a large number and range of outlets globally.Excellent people skills and a track record of working with publicity clients and external stakeholders.Ability to manage projects and see that they are successfully resolved and evaluated.A team-player who sees the well-being of the department as integral to their own success.Able to take a ‘big picture’ approach to assure that work is aligned with company aims.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail.Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, CisionPoint, and Adobe Pro Suite.Experience with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Medium, and other platforms.
