The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.As the Senior Manager of Internal Communications, you will develop and implement communications strategies for the Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) organization to drive business performance, employee engagement and organizational culture aligned with gRED’s strategic goals. You must be an effective communicator, a strong collaborator and able to influence and build our internal communications capabilities. This role involves fostering relationships across the organization to support multiple initiatives, including working closely with members of the executive leadership team. You will develop and execute communications plans at the gRED-wide level and serve as the primary communications business partner for certain core functions of the organization. As a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will provide ongoing support and guidance on how communication strategies can drive organizational priorities. As part of a high-performing team, you will leverage internal expertise and industry best practices to deliver innovative communications in support of gRED’s vision, strategy and culture.This role offers a unique opportunity for the ideal candidate to drive the internal communications strategy for key business units within a large scientific organization that is undergoing an exciting transformation. The successful candidate will work with executive leaders and cross-functional colleagues to deliver best-in-class employee communications in support of the organization’s bold vision to revolutionize drug discovery and development.This position reports to the Senior Director, Head of Communications for Genentech Research and Early Development.The Opportunity:Provide primary communications support to gRED leadership team members and drive the development and execution of the internal communications strategy for specific functions within gRED. Serve as strategic communications counsel to senior leaders.As part of the gRED Communications team, support organization-wide initiatives and communications efforts, including: producing internal articles, orchestrating key employee events, driving digital and multimedia storytelling, and developing communications plans that help advance strategic goals.Partner with colleagues in Genentech and elsewhere within the Roche Group to ensure alignment of messaging and strategy at each level of the global organization.Set goals and assess communications effectiveness through metrics.Cultivate a mindset of experimentation, agility and smart risk taking across the organization to execute on innovative and creative opportunities.Who you are:BS/BA required8-10 years of experience in a communications role in a large, matrixed healthcare or technology organizationExtensive experience developing messaging and communications strategies and plans in support of business goals, initiatives and internal eventsExperience engaging directly with senior management with minimal oversightStrong understanding of executive communications, employee engagement, channels and event managementPreferred qualifications:Biotech or pharma experience in the research/early discovery and development area is highly desirable; science background preferredExperience with change management communications preferredExperience in both external and internal communications a plusConsulting experience a plusRelocation benefits are not available for this posting.The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $141,000-$261,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
