NC State University is the largest and most diverse research institution in the state of North Carolina. The university is comprised of 2110 acres on the Raleigh campus, plus over 100,000 acres in research and extension farms and other facilities throughout the state of North Carolina. Its population of approximately 31,100 students and 2040 faculty include more than 2500 graduate students supported on research and teaching appointments in the 68 established research and service centers.Responsibilities:Knowledgeable of, interpret, apply and enforce rules promulgated by EPA, OSHA, NRC and other federal, state, and local agencies related to EH&S.Develop and implement specific University policies and procedures for programs involving chemicals, biological agents, radioactive materials, and regulated waste streams.Work with faculty and other departments to increase awareness of the department’s activities and provide exceptional customer service.Advise administrators, faculty, and researchers regarding chemical regulations and operational safety.Direct the inspection of laboratories/chemical storage areas and audit departmental operations.Maintain chemical inventory records for use in emergencies and laboratory safety plans.Oversee the work of Assistant Directors and other professionals.Qualifications:Minimum Education and Experience:Master’s degree in chemical or physical sciences, or environmental health or related discipline required; or relevant undergraduate degree with at least two years of relevant experience.A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental health and safety in a university environment required.Other Required Qualifications:Must be highly motivated, energetic, and innovative.Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to EH&S issues.Ability to communicate and establish a good working relationship with diverse stakeholders.Required License(s) or Certification(s):Valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire, must be maintained.Job Open Date:
