Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for Senior Programmer. This position reports to the Director and Banner Projects Manager for the Office of Technology Administration. This position creates and maintains computer programs, program documentation, and operating instructions, performs leadership responsibilities in the development of reusable programming solutions, participates in the systems design process, and frequently assumes responsibility for project maintenance, major modifications, or development of systems. AA/EOE
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BS/BA in Computer Science, Business, or related field
Minimum 5-9 years’ experience in BANNER ERP system or other enterprise system software development and training and/or process support role as a prior business or programmer analyst
Technical project management and team coordination experience in a business environment
Experience with training, software development methodologies and project management a plus
Proficiency in systems design, applications development and programming and scripting
Programming experience must include fluency in procedural, object-oriented, and functional programming concepts, and experience in the following: JavaScript, XML, PL/SQL, T-SQL, Perl, Python, Ruby, Rust, Go, C/C++, C#, Java, Groovy, Scala, or Erlang, batch
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively articulate functional and technical information to a variety of audiences
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously
Must have a willingness to educate their coworkers, have patience and the capability to support end-users
Knowledge of and ability to program using SQL databases; such as Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
Technically savvy with a solid understanding of database concepts, functional software setups, writing reports and understanding of business processes
Must be well organized, efficient, results and detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as a member of a team
Strong leadership and people skills;
Must have the ability to interact, influence and collaborate with associates and management at all levels
Work Hours
Full time and on-call work may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for difficult programming tasks by assuming a leadership role.
Provides for the maintainability of computer programs by creating program documentation and operating instructions.
Consults on the best method for implementing requested changes to existing computing systems by analyzing the requested alterations in terms of their effects on current programs.
Effectively resolves programming problems by conducting a thorough analysis of the system and employing appropriate debugging techniques.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining database tables, queries, and procedures.
Collaborates with functional team members and ITC system analysts and developers to produce software designs.
Formulates program specifications and basic prototypes to resolve problems and improve and automate business processes.
Transforms software designs and specifications into high functioning code in the appropriate software language.
Integrates individual software solutions to higher level systems.
Promotes the development of programmers and programmer/analysts by helping in coding techniques and testing methods as appropriate and by participating in training programs.
Contributes to the overall success of the database management system by participating in the development of SQL queries, tables, functions, procedures, packages, and triggers.
Performs other duties as assigned
