Job DetailsJob Location : Atlantic Council Headquarters - Washington, DCPosition Type : InternshipSalary Range : $17.75 HourlyDescriptionOur interns are an integral part of the Freedom and Prosperity Center. Team projects are all-hands-on-deck. This position will expose the candidate to the elements of communication, the writing process for publications and articles, and designing strategic communication and social media strategies within a think tank.The Atlantic Council's Freedom and Prosperity Center aims to increase the prosperity of the poor and marginalized in developing countries and to explore the nature of the relationship between freedom and prosperity.Successful candidates will have a passion for communication, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit while also being an effective communicator and enjoying the fast pace of learning and growing in an organization. An interest in developing and emerging countries, free-market economies, democracy, and prosperities for poor and marginalized communities through classwork and/or experience is preferred. This position is based in our Washington, DC, headquarters on a hybrid schedule (4 days per week in office). Interns will be compensated at a rate of $17.75 per hour.Responsibilities
Provide logistical and administrative support to FPC team projects and operations.Assist with day-to-day office tasks, including answering phones, handling mail, printing, and greeting visitors.Assist in scheduling appointments, meetings, and conferences for team members.Help coordinate onsite, offsite, and virtual events, including coordinating VIP arrivals and departures, guest management, and AV coordination.Draft event material such as speaker invitations, event invitations, and additional writing assignments, as necessary.Produce relevant readouts and summaries of meetings both for internal record keeping and external knowledge sharing.Assist with the implementation of a communication strategy for the Center to create awareness around the freedom and prosperity indexes and other outputs.Assist in the development of social media strategies, messages, and activities to generate awareness about the work that the center develops.Assist in keeping the website and social media platforms of the Center updated.Assist in the creation and distribution of the Center’s newsletter and utilize email marketing techniques to share the updates of the Center and its impact and reach.Assist in creating and conceptualizing other media outreach including explainer videos and event clips. Writing/editing/proofreading for reports, publications, op-eds, and promotional materials.Qualifications
Must be at least a college junior in good standing or a master’s degree student, a graduate, or a recent graduate, majoring in political science, economics, international affairs, or any relevant field.A strong academic record from an accredited institution strongly preferred.Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) in a hybrid format. Candidate must be in or willing to locate to the Washington DC-area for the internship.Experience with content creation, social media campaigns, website maintenance, email marketing, etc.Must demonstrate proven interest in the core mission of the Atlantic Council.Interest in and knowledge of a range of core topics related to the program/center’s themes and priorities.Must possess excellent writing and editing skills.Must possess excellent experience in developing communication strategies.Background in developing economics studies – a plus.Experience living, working, or travelling in a developing/emerging economy – a plus.Knowledge of second language such as Spanish, Arabic, French, etc. – a plus.Must be authorized to work in the US.Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multicultural and diverse team.Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.Applications close
