High School Dean of Students

Position Overview

Compass Community Schools seeks a Dean of Students for the 2024-2025 school year. The dean will support teachers’ efforts to provide children consistently high-quality learning experiences. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and committed educational leader to prepare Memphis youth academically and in character for college and life-long success.

Primary Responsibilities

Foster a school community that focuses on three pillars – Academic Excellence, Values-Based Character Education, and Service Learning in the community – to prepare students for college and life-long success.

Ownership for generating, building, and maintaining systems to ensure a safe, supportive, joyful, and hopeful school culture for the sake of our Pillars.

Owning and enabling teachers to model and educate the moral compass of our students in meaningful and strategic ways (i.e. character and values integration, student recognition programs, etc.).

Owning and monitoring our school-wide behavioral data system(s) and providing insights and generating interventions according to the RTI-B framework/school climate data.

Owning and managing the disciplinary process for the high school in accordance with school and district policies.

Supporting school activities that add to the sense of belonging for our students (i.e. schoolwide/grade level assemblies, clubs and organizations, student leadership, etc.).

Supporting the Leadership Team with other major initiatives that support the identity of Compass Midtown as well as other duties as assigned by the School Principal.

Communicate with parents regarding student behavior, performance, and any concerns.

Qualifications

Affinity with, and passion for, the compelling Vision of Compass Community School.

Well-versed in data management systems (academic or behavioral) and proven success in raising and maintaining school performance.

Ability to lead a team towards high performance levels in pursuit of the Compass Vision.

Strong ability to plan strategically and creatively around common student behavior issues and situations.

Ability to multitask and manage multiple systems simultaneously by managing a functional personal schedule.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to engage, inspire, and motivate colleagues.

Expertise in de-escalation strategies and techniques for students.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with parents, students, and teammates.

Desire to work hard in a balanced, extended school calendar.

Utmost personal and professional integrity.

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited four-year institution; advanced degree preferred.

At least five years of teaching experience and leadership experience preferred.
