DVC instructors close the equity and opportunity gaps by fostering success among all students. To help further this work, DVC seeks a tenure-track Ethnic Studies Professor to start in August of 2025.The successful applicant will be well qualified to teach introductory courses in the area of Ethnic Studies and will collaborate in the development of new courses in one or more of the following: Native American/Indigenous Studies & Decolonization, Asian American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Black/African American Studies. We are specifically seeking candidates who have the expertise and enthusiasm to contribute to the development of our new Ethnic Studies Department.The successful candidate will also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities of community college students.Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):Masters in Ethnic StudiesOR Master’s in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, or American Indian StudiesOR California Community College Credential to teach in Ethnic Studies or the equivalent.The successful candidate will be expected to:Advance equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs;Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review;Engage in department program improvement initiatives;Participate in department, division, and college committees;Participate in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies;Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations and inform students of their academic progress;Maintain attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to published deadlines;Post and hold sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;Participate in College’s shared governance processes.For more information or inquiries, please contact Carol Trost at ctrost@dvc.edu in the Office of Instruction.To apply, please submit all required documents online.
