Position Summary:
The Data Solutions Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's data infrastructure, supporting business intelligence, reporting, and integration needs. This role combines data architecture, application integration (native, custom, EDI/ETL, API, etc), and BI reporting, with an understanding of ERP systems and business operations in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is skilled in SQL, SSIS, Power BI, and reporting tools, with foundational software development skills and experience.Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Infrastructure Design
Design and oversee data architecture that supports scalability, performance, and reliability for business applications and reporting.Develop and document data models, schemas, and workflows to support integration across SaaS applications, ERP, EDI, and reporting systems.Ensure data architecture aligns with organizational goals and best practices for data governance, security, and lifecycle management.Data Integration & Development
Design and manage ETL processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and create/modify APIs to facilitate seamless data exchange across systems.Develop and maintain EDI workflows for data exchange with external partners, including document translation, mapping, and ERP integration.Create custom C# scripts within SSIS packages and leverage programming languages such as Python or other approaches for API-based data integrations.Use data cataloging tools (e.g., Dataedo) to document data lineage, ensuring comprehensive data governance and traceability.Reporting & Analytics
Develop SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports and Power BI dashboards to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.Collaborate with business units to identify reporting needs and design solutions aligned with strategic objectives and manufacturing operations.Implement Python scripts (or other approaches) within Power BI for advanced data analysis and report customization.ERP Systems, Business Systems, & API Integration
Facilitate integration between ERP, EDI, and other business systems via APIs, ensuring data consistency and availability.Collaborate with ERP administrators to enhance reporting capabilities and streamline data flows.Work on data-related projects within ERP and business applications, focusing on API and system integration points.Data Governance & Cataloging
Implement data governance practices and maintain documentation on data flows using tools like Dataedo, ensuring data lineage and compliance.Ensure compliance with data security and privacy standards, especially regarding sensitive or manufacturing-specific data.Collaboration & Mentorship
Work closely with data analysts, software developers, and business stakeholders to support data-driven projects.Mentor junior team members on best practices in data integration, architecture, API development, and reporting.Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field.Experience: Minimum of 5 years in data architecture, data integration, reporting, and API development, with strong experience in ETL, EDI, and ERP systems. Manufacturing industry experience is a plus.Technical Skills:Proficiency in SQL and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).Experience with C# scripting in SSIS packages and API development using Python, Java, or similar languages.Expertise in EDI processes and standards, particularly for ERP integration.Strong background in data architecture principles and data modeling.Proficiency in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI.Familiarity with data cataloging tools (e.g., Dataedo) and data lineage documentation.Understanding of ERP systems and integration through APIs and other means.Soft Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills for cross-departmental collaboration.Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with manufacturing industry processes and systems.Advanced knowledge of ERP data structures and integration for data analytics and reporting.Working Conditions:
