Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.SCOPE OF POSITION:Plan, supervise, and implement the camp challenge course programs including but not limited to: Low Ropes Course, High Ropes Course, Climbing Wall, and Zip Line. Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers and staff while participating in assigned camp programs.EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:High School Graduate, some college preferred but not mandatoryACCT Level 2 Certification requiredExperience working with children preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Possess good leadership skillsPossess good verbal and written communication skillsBe able to pass a child safety background checkBe detail oriented and well organizedMust be knowledgeable in the areas of children/personnel safety, planning, problem solving, and crisis interventionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Plan and implement Discovery and Wilderness camp challenge courses for electives, free-time, and cabin activitiesCreate an environment that leads groups to success
Know the type of group and the specific needs of the group you're working withMaintain open, friendly, and professional relationships with participantsMaintain an attitude of fun and excitementUse encouragement and positive reinforcement in all situations
Lead games initiatives and elements for groups ranging from 8 to 20 campers
Clearly communicate the instructions for each game, initiative, and element in a fun and creative mannerHave all equipment and props prepared before the campers' arrivalEnsure the safety of campers and staff
Lead briefing and debriefing sessions with each group
Communicate the objective of the activities, Five Finger ContractObserve groups' responses to each challenge and formulate appropriate questions to encourage group learning and growthInitiate and facilitate final wrap-up session at the end of each course to sum up the experience and point campers to Christ in transferring their learning
Always ensure compliance with standards of safety and programmatic conduct. Inspect all equipment, hardware, and elements for damage before and after each course
Report all damaged equipment, hardware, and elements verbally and on a pre-use inspection formParticipate in safety trainingClearly communicate all safety procedures and standards to participants for each activityAttend to surroundings and participants needs during all coursesBe aware of any medical/physical conditions or special needs of the campers
Fill out all necessary paperwork
Fill out Pre-use inspections, course evaluations, rope and equipment logs, incident report forms, and maintenance forms
Perform inventory of challenge course program equipment and supplies at the start and finish of the summer and each weekComplete any necessary course or grounds maintenance as necessary to maintain a safe and aesthetic course as assigned by the Camp DirectorGENERAL DUTIES:Exhibit effective Christ-like conduct and service as an appropriate example for campers and staffGive support to the total camping program performing all other duties required to provide a consistently excellent programAttend and participate in all camp programs as required including, but not limited to evening programs, chapel activities, and staff meetingsFollow all policies and proceduresMaintain cleanliness and order in your person and living quartersAssist with cleanup of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summerPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basisGrasp, push, pull objects, and reach overheadOperate telephone and computerLift up to 25 lbs.Understand verbal and written informationSweep, clean and perform other janitorial tasks as neededQualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
