Responsibilities

State Farm (Bloomington IL) seeks a Lead Software Engineer to modernize State Farm’s policy administration system utilizing Guidewire’s Policy Center and AWS cloud solutions. Specific duties include:Apply advanced engineering practices to design full-stack applications using industry-adopted languages and frameworks.Diagnose and resolve complex problems/issues.Provide mentorship, technical guidance, training, and may delegate work to others.Maintain advanced understanding in software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests.Maintain advanced understanding in programming (e.g. Java, JavaScript) and database functionality (e.g. SQL, Non-SQL).Maintain advanced understanding in compute environments, including but not limited to Linux, Hadoop, Mainframe, Public Cloud, and containers.Apply advanced understanding regarding technology trends/changes, best practices, and processes to complete assignments and influence the direction of product solutions.Apply advanced understanding of product design, data design and movement and test to ensure quality outcomes.Leverage an advanced understanding of the State Farm organizational structure to navigate the organization.Champion and lead others to design and develop for exceptional user experience.Engage with technical groups in the organization, like dev guilds.Must have the following certifications: Guidewire Certified Insurance Suite 10.0 Integration Ace, Guidewire Certified Insurance Suite 10.0 Integration Specialist, Guidewire Certified PolicyCenter 10.0 Configuration Specialist. Must take and pass Java coding test. Occasional travel once per month to Bloomington IL for performance meetings, team meetings, or planning required. Option to work remotely with required quarterly travel to local offices as needed, if within 180 miles of remote worksite.

Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field of study, plus 8 years of experience in the job offered, or as a Staff Software Engineer, Associate Consultant, Member Delivery Group, Programmer Analyst, or similar Gosu position using Policy Center. Specific experience must include:Using programming language(s), including Java, JavaScript, Gosu/Guidewire, AWS, Terraform, and Python, to complete complex assignments.Designing full-stack applications using industry-adopted languages and frameworks.Working with software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests.Working with compute environments, including Linux, Hadoop, Mainframe, Public Cloud, and containers.Mentoring and providing technical & scripting training to others.Designing and developing Application Program Interfaces (APIs), Dynatrace and Splunk dashboard analysis, creation of Maul alerts, and application/product deployment.Supporting and servicing applications deployed to production.Must have the following certifications: Guidewire Certified Insurance Suite 10.0 Integration Ace, Guidewire Certified Insurance Suite 10.0 Integration Specialist, Guidewire Certified PolicyCenter 10.0 Configuration Specialist. Must take and pass Java coding test. Occasional travel once per month to Bloomington, IL for performance meetings, team meetings, or planning required.
