Job Summary
Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as Director Quarles Humanities and Social Science Institute, including working with faculty, undergraduate and graduate students to extend the impact of research in the humanities and the social sciences.
Cultivate students within the humanities and some social science area to serve as Quarles undergraduate scholars;
Develop after-action and impact measurement tools;
Develop ongoing symposium and programming, in addition to further connecting the Institute to the strategic planning goals and initiatives of the University;
Serve as Co-PI on the Mellon/Quarles Initiative;
Supervising the office staff, the coordinators of the projects and all personnel associated with the Institute;
Supervising and overseeing the planning, implementation and coordination of all activities in the Institute;
Managing the budget of the Institute and supervising and approving all expenditures for the Institute, including course reduction for coordinators;
Supervising all outreach and partnership activities;
Holding periodic meetings with the coordinators and other individuals associated with the Institute;
Reporting periodically to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and the Advisory Committee of the Institute;
Compiling periodic and annual reports on the Institute, including required periodic reports to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation;
Editing and compiling the
Quarles Institute Newsletter
and maintaining a Quarles Institute website and social media presence.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
Required Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
A terminal degree, and a record of research and scholarly achievements appropriate for appointment to the rank of associate professor in one of the College’s academic units;
Demonstrated ability to articulate, implement and innovate a clear vision for the Quarles Institute;
Appreciation for and interest in faculty and student research as well as staff professional growth;
Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to build collaborative initiatives;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff;
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and intercultural communication skills;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with individuals inside and outside the organization;
Ability and willingness to work some evenings or weekends that may include limited out-of-state travel.
Other Preferences for Consideration
Record of excellence in teaching, research, creative activities, service, and administration;
Record of securing and managing grants and fund-raising;
Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in academia;
Some supervision and personnel management experience;
