The Gospel Coalition
Children’s Ministry Director at King's Cross Church
The Gospel Coalition, Torrance, California, United States, 90504
King’s Cross children’s ministry provides a Sunday school for children age 3 through 5 th
grade and a nursery for children younger than 3. We meet in a high school, so we set up and tear down completely each week. We store supplies in a storage unit during the week although any materials needed to prepare weekly lessons are stored by the Children’s Ministry Director. The church hires additional children’s workers but relies on volunteers as the primary teachers. We currently serve over 30 children between the nursery & children’s education classes. We divide the children into multi-age classes: age 3-pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten-2 nd grade, and 3 rd
through 5 th
grade. We receive the children after the musical portion of church worship and divide the remaining 60-75 minutes among games, lesson, and either craft or discussion. Volunteers serve once a month and sign up by blocking out the dates they are not available. King’s Cross Church is a 6 year old church, planted in the South Bay out of Pacific Crossroads Church. Our vision echoes the Lord’s prayer: may it be “in the South Bay, as it is in heaven.” We yearn to see people flourishing in Jesus, including in our children’s ministry. Currently we average roughly 150 people each Sunday, with over 30 children under the age of 10. We have a growing nursery as well. We are seeking applicants who long to see children fall in love with Jesus; oversee volunteers, teachers, and care workers; manage curriculum and ongoing correspondence with families. 30-40 hours per week, with benefits, depending upon experience. Job Description
The goals of the children’s ministry are: Share the gospel in every lesson that by God’s grace the children would fall in love with Jesus. Support parents in the discipling of their children. Teach the Bible to provide a foundation of Biblical literacy, Bible memorization, and trust in the authority of scripture. Provide a forum for children to ask questions, to learn how to read the Bible, and to rely on Jesus through prayer. Develop and support friendships among the children to strengthen community. The primary duties of the Children’s Ministry Director are: Prepare weekly curriculum with lessons, games, crafts, and Bible memorization in such a format as the volunteers can teach directly from the prepared materials. Video instruction is facilitated through iPads and projectors. Manage the set up and clean up of the nursery and children’s areas of Sunday programs. Develop, manage, and encourage the volunteers and paid care workers to support all aspects of the children’s ministry. Ensure youth protection protocols are followed through two-deep leadership, child check-in and check-out procedures, background checks and fingerprinting, interviewing volunteers, and managing a safe use of the shared space on campus. Lead special times of celebration for Easter and Christmas through activities and opportunities for the children to sing for the congregation. Support parents as they disciple their children through weekly communication, occasional classes, and community building events. Manage supplies for the children’s ministry within the budget provided and purchasing procedures established. Meeting Place: West High School Auditorium 20401 Victor Street Torrance, CA 90503
