Pay based on applicable experience and qualificationsPOSITION OVERVIEWThe Assistant Accounting Manager reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for the financial closing and reporting of several partnerships in a given portfolio, including the analytical review and reconciliation of all entitles in the portfolio in compliance with US GAAP and MidPen accounting policies. In addition, the Assistant Accounting Manager assists with the review of monthly close packages and management of various financial reporting deadlines.The Assistant Accounting Manager is responsible for implementing process improvement in order to increase accounting efficiency, including training of new hires and the continued education of the Property Accounting team to ensure each team member has the latest knowledge to perform his/her duties. This position is also tasked with organizing and creating documentation for the accounting of significant transactions to provide future reference for the accounting.This is a hybrid position, based on current MidPen policy of working Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Foster City Office. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, option to work from home or the office. When working from home, requires a reliable internet connection.ESSENTIAL DUTIESCollaborate with management in revising current processes and offering deliverable improvements within the Department. Develop recommendations for effective and efficient business processes and participate in cross-functional projectsManage the onboarding and training of new Property Accounting hires, and oversee the continuous training of the Property Accounting team on current practicesProactively research and document findings and conclusions for the accounting of significant transactions (e.g., LP buyout, insurance claim reimbursements and related capitalization of improvements) with appropriate understanding of relevant GAAP pronouncementsAssist with the update and maintenance of the MidPen Accounting Policies & Procedures Manual. Work with the accounting staff in the interpretation and implementation of any policy changesResponsible for analyzing financial information and accurately compiling information for financial reporting of an assigned portfolio of properties and general partners. Monthly close process includes account reconciliations, journal entries, and analytical review of account variancesResponsible for reviewing the month-end reporting of selected properties to ensure accurate accounting and analysisCoordinate month-end closing schedule with outsourced accounting teamClosely work with internal and outsourced accounting teams for feedback on the work-product and coordination between the two teams on various aspects of month-end closingCollaborate with Property Management, Asset Management, Corp and Dev. Accounting, IT and Data Analytics teams on various projects to improve efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes by exploring alternatives that are scalablePrepare annual audit schedules and work with external auditors to complete audit and tax return and ensure all are filed within timeline of Partnership and other agreementsReview audited financials and footnotes prepared by external auditors. Monitor adherence to audit requirements and ensure full compliance in accordance with regulatory agenciesAssist with the review of all surplus cash distributions to ensure accurate calculation and appropriate distributionsCompletion of ad hoc analysis and reconciliation, as requestedPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
