Summary of Position:

The Staff Accountant will partner with assigned Program Directors to maximize services provided and will prepare budgets, schedules, financial reports, and various general ledger entries. The Staff Accountant works closely with Program Directors and with funders to provide accurate accounting information for multiple service contracts. This position is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Fiscal Services / Controller.

Essential Duties:

Works in partnership with Program Director, Executive Leadership Team to ensure accurate reporting and understanding of the financial health of the assigned programs portfolio.Is responsible for preparing, analyzing and monitoring contract budgets; compiling routine and special statistical reports; reviewing expenditures to ensure conformance with budgetary limitations and contractual requirements; and, auditing vouchers and expense accounts.Performs advanced and specialized accounting assignments involving complex and confidential data, using independent judgment with direction from management; and, obtains and analyzes financial information in order to prepare reports, statements, and recommendations.Is responsible for assigned Balance Sheet accounts and the timely monthly reconciliation of these accounts to ensure accuracy and timeliness for month-end financial closing.Performs journal entries in the general ledger in a timely manner and ensures proper supporting documentation is attached for the entries for Vice President of Fiscal Services / Controller review and approval.Prepares schedules in each of their areas of responsibility for the annual independent audit including reconciliation of such schedule to Trial Balance figures.Is responsible for cross-training other staff accountants on assigned programs and additional fiscal duties to provide adequate backup coverage during one's absence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (minimum) plus 1-3 years' experience in accounting or related field, required.

Other Qualifications:

Can obtain a satisfactory Hawaii State Criminal History (Ecrim) Background check upon hire, one year later, and every other year thereafter.Can obtain a satisfactory National Sex Offender Registry Check upon hire, one year later, and every other year thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in non-profit accounting preferred.
