Job Summary

Performs duties of a HLT I Phlebotomist.

Acts as a team lead and assumes duties of the supervisor in the absence of Lab Supervisor in the outpatient draw lab.

Assists with training students in performing blood drawing.

Monitors workflow and productivity reports.

Helps troubleshoot problems regarding blood drawing.

Other tasks include ordering supplies and maintaining temperature logs.

Works closely with and under the guidance of Lab Processing Supervisors.

Responsible for opening and closing of outpatient draw lab.

Performs quick registration of patients and releasing correct Apex orders.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $43.30 - $54.05 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Graduation from college with coursework in biological sciences, or two years of college with some coursework in natural, physical, or social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.

One to two years of experience working in a Clinical Laboratory.

Demonstrated knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with physicians, requesting departments, and other staff including ability to clearly explain complex medical information in both verbal and written form.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Proficient with PC, Windows, Word, Excel, etc.

Competency in pediatric, neonatal and geriatric phlebotomy if required in work section (requires Calif. Certification).

Preferred Qualifications

Previous knowledge of and experience in a clinical lab setting, and medical terminology.

Recent Phlebotomy experience.

License/Certification

Current California State Phlebotomy Certificate (CPT1).
