General Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced technologist with 10+ years’ experience to serve as the Technical Lead for our Atlassian (JIRA, Confluence, JSM etc.) and Application Lifecycle Management systems team. As part of the Global Engineering IT organization, this individual will support Qualcomm's next-generation engineering innovations, including software design, development, testing, integration, and release processes. This role involves strategizing, planning, architecting, executing integration, collaborating with global teams, and engaging with In-Region stakeholders. Also play a major role with M&A integration during the transition and migration activities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and the ability to modernize current tools and solutions as part of our digital transformation. They will also design and develop new solutions to meet engineering needs. This strategic role involves leading a unified vision that considers the total cost of ownership for the enterprise, aligning with contemporary technologies, staying abreast of industry trends, and defining and implementing best practices.
Candidate should have hands-on experience deploying and managing modern, distributed Atlassian Cloud and Application Lifecycle Management systems and processes. The role requires regular interaction with peers in Engineering-IT and both software and hardware engineering teams, focusing on technologies and services in a large-scale, globally distributed, and highly scalable engineering environment.
To excel in this role, we are looking for a versatile engineer with a diverse skill set in system software and software development, as well as knowledge of large enterprise application deployments. Excellent interpersonal communication skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with our global teams to understand, explain, and resolve issues, and collaborate on building and deploying scalable software solutions.
**Must be able to work in San Diego full time (4 days a week)
Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years of IT-relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems).
OR 9+ years of IT-relevant work experience without a Bachelor’s degree.
6+ years of work experience with Full-stack Application Development (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
3+ years of work experience with Data Structures, algorithms, and data stores.
This position will be responsible for:
Driving the product roadmap, managing the backlog, prioritizing needs, overseeing product development and implementation, and serving as the primary liaison to engineering across all Atlassian and Application Lifecycle Management tool sets for the enterprise.
Assessing the current systems architecture and collaborating with technical staff to recommend improvements.
Conceiving, designing, and developing interfaces and integration architectures.
Analyzing user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
Ensuring the efficient functioning of data storage and processing in accordance with company security policies and cloud security best practices.
Designing, developing, and deploying modular on-premises or cloud-based systems and APIs.
Resolving defects and performance issues discovered during testing.
Configuring, building, and testing application or technical architecture components.
Collaborating with other developers, designers, and architects to ensure that configurations and custom components meet application requirements and performance goals.
Managing a team of up to 3-5 engineers in the US/EMEA, providing technical and people leadership.
Anticipating, identifying, tracking, and resolving issues and risks affecting delivery.
Continuously researching current and emerging technologies and proposing necessary changes.
Staying updated on current technology trends and familiar with application development best practices and industry trends.
Informing stakeholders about any problems with the current technical solutions being implemented.
Assessing the business impact of certain technical choices.
Providing updates to stakeholders on product development processes.
Identifying industry best practices and drafting standards for the design and implementation of automation workflows.
Providing application and technical support as needed.
Coordinating activities with other developers locally and globally to ensure timely project completion.
Integrating various tools in the DevOps toolchain to accelerate the Engineering Tool team's velocity while maintaining high standards for quality and consistency.
Demonstrating strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision or direction.
A solid understanding and familiarity with the following are required:
Extensive knowledge and experience in managing Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, JSM, etc.) as well as contemporary Application Lifecycle Management tools and release systems.
Proven experience in leading the implementation of systems in large enterprises.
Strong understanding of globally distributed fault-tolerant systems.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with Cloud services and applications such as SaaS, PaaS, IaaS.
Experience designing and building backend REST APIs.
Well-versed in Agile and SDLC processes.
Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.
Top-notch verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Skills in creating architecture design diagrams.
Intellectual curiosity, positive attitude, flexibility, analytical ability, self-motivation, and a team-oriented mindset.
Proficiency with a modern server-side language such as Python, Java.
