He held that job for just over two years, then became the Financial Controller for Harrah's Entertainment in Mayetta, Kansas. He held that job from April 2004 to July 2007.

Then he joined the Prarie Band Casino & Resort, also in Mayetta, where he worked for more than 7 and a half years. First, he started out as Director of Operations, from July 2007 to January 2008. Then he served as CFO from January 2008 to February 2015.

From February 2005 to November 2016, he worked as the Assistant GM of the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas. Then, from November 2016 to July 2021, he served as the CFO of the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

In July 2021 is when the Forest County Potawatomi named Ortiz as CEO and GM of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
