SUMMARY:

With Exelixis’ continued growth and extensive, fast-moving pipeline, the need has been identified to recruit a seasoned and highly experienced Associate Market Planning & Competitive Intelligence Director. The Associate Market Planning & Competitive Intelligence Director is a key contributor to Exelixis’ planning efforts that shape the company’s commercial and development strategies. This individual will be a crucial strategic thought partner to key internal stakeholders throughout the organization. This individual will be responsible for leading and managing primary market research studies and will work closely with multiple cross-functional teams within the commercial organization and across Exelixis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead, design and execute primary market research projects with HCPs and patients to gather and share actionable insights.

Collaborate with marketing and other commercial functions to identify market insights, understand current and future market landscapes, and define business needs and primary market research objectives.

Actively participate in supporting pre-launch/launch strategy and post-launch strategy/tracking by sharing insights from primary market research, integrated with competitive intelligence, secondary data, and publicly available secondary literature sources.

Translate data and information into compelling insights and recommendations. Effectively communicate insights and lead meetings with commercial leaders and other cross-functional business partners.

Lead and support analytics required to generate and triangulate insights across data sources, including primary market research, secondary literature and other data sources.

Understand patient epidemiology and inform assumptions for long-range and short-range forecasts.

Lead competitive intelligence planning for key conferences (e.g., ASCO, ESMO) with input from internal stakeholders and/or third-party agency; drive working team preparedness and communicate pre, on-site, and post-conference coverage outputs.

Attend key scientific congresses and summarize key insights from a scientific perspective focusing on novel treatment paradigms, mechanisms of action, and clinical trial landscape.

Cover competitor earnings and key investor calls, providing summaries of key metrics and implications in a timely manner.

Consistently and effectively communicate with key stakeholders to inform on timely alerts (e.g., clinical data releases, product approvals/failures) and landscape updates with commercial implications.

Develop and oversee execution of US Market Research, including management of third parties and budgets associated with this function.

Further strengthen market research best practices, identify market research and data sources, vendor options, and methodologies that are best suited to address a business need.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No direct reports; manage vendors as appropriate.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Education:

Advanced degree (Master’s and/or Ph.D) in related discipline and 5 years of related experience; or

BS/BA degree in related discipline and at least 7 years of related experience; or

Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

Experience in developing sound strategic partnerships with Brand, Sales and Market Access teams.

Extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative primary market research methodologies and analytics for marketed products, including but not limited to tracking studies (ATUs, Chart Audits), message/concept testing, and positioning research.

Previous commercial experience in Brand, Sales, or Market Access role highly desirable.

Previous launch experience is highly desirable.

Experience with primary intelligence and secondary data sources is highly desirable.

Expertise in oncology is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of multiple qualitative and quantitative market research methods.

Ability to frame critical therapeutic area questions, identify information needs to answer those questions, and determine where to best search for primary and secondary information sources.

Leverage scientific training to evaluate and analyze scientific literature to develop perspective on evolving treatment landscapes.

Ability to anticipate and identify challenges and resolve problems effectively.

Effective presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Excellent organizational, project management, attention to detail, responsiveness.

Ability to work in a fast-evolving environment and flexibility in adjusting to evolving and ambiguous needs, as appropriate.

Excellent MS Office suite, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

COMPENSATION:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $163,000 - $232,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers a comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
