Job Description Summary: Conflict Education and Student Accountability (CESA), within the Division for Student Affairs, engages across GW to foster equitable and restorative accountability to community standards. We do this through: Promoting individual rights and communal responsibilities. Supporting community members to identify and repair harm. Growing community capacity for conflict management. Facilitating a procedurally-sound and learning-centered process. The Associate Director of Conflict Education and Student Accountability directs the daily operations of addressing behavioral student misconduct in partnership with an Assistant Director who focuses on academic student misconduct. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly; makes hiring decisions; provides coaching, training, and mentoring; manages performance and determines future staffing needs. This position has enterprise-wide scope, reporting to the Director of Conflict Education and Student Accountability and is responsible for the following: Directing case management for all incoming student behavioral cases, including off-campus, student organization cases, and Alcohol Medical Amnesty. Executes this case management through an educational and restorative lens. Supervising two Conduct and Conflict Management Specialists and the office’s Administrative Assistant. Directs the recruitment, training, and performance management of these professional staff members. Independently managing a diverse caseload that may also include academic integrity cases and a full range of sanctioning possibilities. This includes facilitating panels of the University Integrity & Conduct Council as appropriate to the case. The residential portion of this caseload is managed collaboratively with colleagues from Campus Living and Residential Education. Managing CESA’s effective use of Maxient case management software and its connections to other systems (e.g., Banner) in partnership with GW’s IT department and other users in Campus Living & Residential Education, Student Success, and Title IX. Representing CESA on university committees and teams, including but not limited to the Behavioral Intervention Team and the Title IX Working Group. Developing and maintaining collaborations with key colleagues and offices, including Athletics, Counseling & Psychological Services, Disability Support Services, Health Promotion & Education, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement, Office of General Counsel, GWPD, Student Life, and other relevant colleagues. Facilitating and developing training for professional staff, paraprofessional staff, students, faculty, and other GW community members. Topics include student conduct, restorative practices, and conflict management. Responding to inquiries from GW campus constituencies, including students, families, neighbors, faculty, and staff. Preparing reports and data analysis for use in the assessment and improvement of CESA’s work and impact on the community. Preparing data as needed for other campus constituencies, including for Clery reporting, DFSCA reporting, and campus plan reporting. Acting as a liaison to the faculty, staff, students, and the Office of General Counsel related to academic and non-academic misconduct issues, as assigned. Maintaining professional expertise in areas related to conflict management, restorative practices, student conduct, and other related areas. The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrate capacity for excellent written and verbal communication that is responsive to the needs of a diverse community. Experience working in academic and non-academic student conduct and conflict management services. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of conflict management and restorative practices. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of inclusion and equity practices. Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of program and learning assessment. Knowledge of current student learning practices in the area of student conduct and conflict management. Knowledge of higher education, FERPA, Clery, Title IX, VAWA, and related compliance laws and issues. Strong supervision, communication, and organizational skills. Experience collaborating in a teamwork environment with shifting priorities. Familiarity with the case management software, Maxient.
