JOB SUMMARY:The Director, Principal Architect role is to be the strategic leader for global enterprise, solution, and application architecture. This individual works closely with executive leadership to help shape the vision and determine the technology solutions and roadmap to support a global business; works closely with the architecture team to enable a strategic vision for the functional discipline; and enables senior architects to design and build individual solutions.
The architect ensures the platform has a cohesive vision while ensuring integrations ensure security, performance, reliability, reusability, and scalability. This role is involved in the design of a global, standardized platform across multiple value streams. They will design a landscape of new enterprise-wide systems for use at multiple locations and serve as the subject matter expert that other teams can utilize for platforms and projects across the Universal Destinations & Experiences (UDX) global portfolio.
As the top architect, this individual acts as a subject matter expert on the technologies the organization uses to deliver best-in-class guest experiences. They will be responsible for helping to set the strategic direction for these technologies in collaboration with architecture leadership and the CTO.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Technology Roadmap Strategy & Planning
Act as the leader for the technology strategic roadmap. Own roadmap of platform rationalization to ensure the global portfolio is standardized to ensure efficiency across the company.
Help set a strategic plan across the enterprise across all solution domain areas.
Ensure alignment between data architecture, security architecture and infrastructure architecture.
Develop and document plans and work with senior leadership to implement.
Work with senior executive leadership to present on technology and align on strategy
Enterprise Solution Design
Design enterprise-wide solutions with multiple complex integrations.
Create designs that can be re-used across the enterprise.
Create documentation that can be shared at a senior executive level and for implementation teams.
Technology Advocate, Innovation & Modernization
Conduct research on emerging technologies and work to implement these technologies in a technology roadmap.
Hold lunch and learn with teams to advocate for new technologies.
Ensure understanding of new technologies from major vendors and the industry.
Work to enable innovation in new projects and solutions.
Ensure systems are modernized to provide new benefits and capabilities to team members and guests.
Platform Rationalization
Help design and implement long term strategic goals for application and platform rationalization.
Ensure systems across the enterprise are appropriate, rationalize, and combine to find efficiencies where possible.
Technical Collaboration
Collaborate with executive leadership and senior technology leads across the organization.
Collaborate with other teams, including delivery, project management, product, business transformation, quality engineering, IT security, infrastructure, and on-site support teams.
Governance & Standards
Create and maintain governance and standards for use across the enterprise focused on architecture documentation, patterns, and procedures.
Work with relevant leadership to help craft governance and standards for other systems, such as performance and monitoring.
Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is required.
EXPERIENCE:
10+ years in IT experience with large integrated projects or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years in architecture or equivalent experience.
Prior experience includes leading development projects, strategic planning, resource management, and the implementation of large-scale applications.
Proven successful experience working with vendors, ensuring they deliver based on the development and delivery requirements outlined.
Experience working with agile techniques and mythologies.
Experience working with technical leaders and SMEs to achieve the delivery of major projects or functionality with a high degree of quality and meeting expectations, including working hands-on with delivery and vendor teams on triaging and resolving issues and process blockers both pre- and post-production.
