Staff Software Systems Engineer - Software Architecture

This is an opportunity to join the Software Systems Engineering team to participate in building the Zoox robotaxi, the first in the world that has operated on public roads. The Software Systems Engineering team is responsible for defining SW development processes and ensuring that all safety-critical software meets a high safety bar for production vehicles.
In this role, you will collaborate with the software and safety team to ensure the developed software meets the targeted integrity level. The focus of this role will be on software architecture and systems engineering activities of Robot’s AI software applications, middleware and driver components.
In this role, you will
Form and lead a cross functional SW architecture committee. Set up process/templates to enforce industry standards and best practices for developing and maintaining SW components using Linux/C/C++/GPU/AI Applications. Evaluate the existing SW architecture and provide guidance/suggestions to improve safety, reliability and performance. Set up a Change Control Board and develop relevant change management process/templates for handling the architecture level changes across different systems/subsystems. Work with cross functional teams to review/approve/reject architecture level changes. Introduce SW Architecture best practices such as modularity, flexibility and scalability and ensure their effective implementation into Zoox’s workflows. Qualifications
12+ years of industry experience in architecting/developing scalable/distributed/complex applications using C/C++ in Linux Environment. Exposure to different communication protocols and standards, open source communication frameworks. Exposure in developing software using different processor architectures like X86, ARM, Other microcontrollers. Exposure to GPU/Accelerated computing environments. Exposure to high performance, distributed and resource constrained SW systems development. Familiar and hands-on experience in using industry best practices in the area of change management and configuration management. Bonus Qualifications
Exposure to various operating systems including Real Time Operating Systems and architectures. Hands-on experience with industry standard tools (Ex: MagicDraw, Enterprise architect, etc) for SW Systems Engineering. Exposure to SW System Engineering best practices and standards (Ex: ASPICE, DO-178B/C, ISO 26262). Exposures to software development processes for Safety Critical Applications. Exposure to Autonomous vehicle development. There are three major components to compensation for this position: pay, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The pay range for this position is $204,000 to $294,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The pay range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
