Vice President of AdvancementVice President of Advancement provides the strategic direction and management of all the functions of the Office of Advancement to build Concordia Places philanthropic support, visibility, and position in the community.
The Office of Advancement includes marketing, communications, external relations, as well as, the fundraising/development areas and corresponding supports for donor relations, annual and major gifts, campaigns and special events, corporate, foundation, planned giving, and select public funding.
Reports to President/CEO.
Responsibilities
Strategy and Oversight
Prepare, implement and monitor an advancement strategic plan and supporting annual plans with goals for revenue, donor acquisition/retention, communications, etc.
Lead advancement plans that result in diversified and long-term funding streams (private foundations, corporate, individuals, and public) to sustain current program operations and support future growth
Oversee and support annual fund strategies, including events, individual giving, appeals, repeat giving programs, and foundation and corporate support
Forge new and steward existing relationships to build Concordias visibility, impact and financial resources; coordinate with the board and other leadership to leverage networks and resources
Development
Instill donor stewardship and cultivation programs that promote strong donor ties, donor retention, and increase year-over-year giving and giving levels
Integrate planned giving into major gift asks and overall Concordia Place giving programs
Manage and grow own portfolio of major donors; oversee and mentor other team members with donor cultivation, moves management, and stewardship
Responsible for the development, implementation and management of capital campaigns as needed for strategic initiatives
Coordinate efforts across departments and functions to execute an overall engagement strategy for parents and recruit volunteer leadership
Ensure efficient and effective processes for private and public grants, including prospect research, proposal and template development, submission, and acknowledgment. Collaborate with program services and finance for reporting as appropriate
Planned Giving
Create and implement overall planned giving strategy and campaign to raise awareness, steward existing donors, and grow the Mission Endowment Fund for future mission needs
Develop rational for endowment and planned gifts; develop other infrastructure needs, such as collateral, updated website, connections to resources, etc.
Incorporate endowment/planned giving into major gift conversations
Maintain and steward a thriving and growing 1981 Society of committed planned gift donors
Outreach, Marketing, and Communications
Actively inspire, promote and champion Concordia through networks, presentations, events, community, social media, etc.
Develop and lead a comprehensive outreach strategy to develop strong relationships with stakeholders, including participants, donors, philanthropic community, and elected officials
Ensure a cohesive message and communications strategy that aligns with fundraising needs and simultaneously builds Concordias external brand, reputation and visibility
Oversee the marketing, website and social media, and coordinated outreach to prospective and current families to drive enrollment and retention
Liaison and Leadership
Lead advancement function for leadership and the Board of Directors, such as onboarding, fundraising education, messaging, support committee work, etc.
Support professional growth and development of team members
Develop, monitor and report on institutional advancement metrics
Proactively ensure the infrastructure for an efficient and effective advancement office; involves developing department and project budgets; managing spending to budget; maintaining policies and procedures; and securing appropriate tools and technology
Inspire collaboration between advancement and program teams, resulting in engagement with families we serve, stories from those we serve, and strong funding applications and reporting processes
As an executive leader, drive culture and actively promote Concordia Place guiding principles across functions, sites, and all of Concordia Ministries
Experience and Skills
At least 8 years of demonstrated success in developing and leading fundraising strategies, preferably in the human services field in the Chicago area
Results-oriented, charismatic leader with exceptional networking abilities
Ability to present in a convincing and professional manner that inspires and generates enthusiasm with potential funders, donors, volunteers, staff and stakeholders
Demonstrated success gaining confidence of executive business leaders/sponsors
Proven results in donor acquisition, moves management, and cultivation
Experience managing a portfolio of donors; success with gift asks exceeding $40,000
Success in at least one capital campaign; ideally achieving at least $5 million
Ability to write clear and precise communications; prepare and deliver compelling presentations and proposals
Experience with planned giving is a plus
Proficiency with donor database systems and ability to prepare and analyze donor reports and spreadsheets
Hands-on proficiency with donor database technologies and Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
