The Banquet General Manager provides proper training and supervision of all personnel including assistant managers and supervisors for events. The Banquet General Manager’s purpose is to ensure that events and/ or activities are highly organized and well executed, resulting in the complete satisfaction of Edgewater guests attending the event. This position supervises event room set-ups, service, execution and maintenance of all banquet functions and banquet equipment. This role is a highly detailed role within the hotel to complete event requirement and create an appealing experience for guests.

Position Duties

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Interview, hire, train and resolve service issues with staff.

Supervise staff setting up function rooms, including placement of linens, silver, china, and glassware. Visually inspect event space and equipment prior to functions for cleanliness, proper inventory, and set up. Supervise clean-up of function room and proper breakdown and storage of equipment.

Enter billing information into Micros in order to generate a final guest check. Post all banquet checks at end of day.

Supervise event floor during operations and ensure staff and stations are functioning properly.

Ensure and complete processing payroll including calculating number of hours worked and gratuity distribution.

Maintain staffing levels for all events and hotel needs.

Conducting pre-function meeting with service staff.

Ensure Edgewater service protocol is followed by staff.

Guide timing of guest experience.

Resolve any guest complaints.

Manage staff including scheduling, supervising and onboarding.

Ensuring constant communication is maintained with the Catering, Sales, Kitchen and Banquet department.

Assist in Sales department strategy to increase cohesive client hand off and delivery of service

Assign duties to banquet staff and supporting of Assistant Banquet Manager, Banquet Captains assigned to particular event or function.

Know and adhere to all company polices and SOPs. Develop new SOPs to increase operational efficiency and productivity for The Edgewater.

Oversee inventory and ordering process to ensure PAR levels are met.

Assist F&B Director in developing plan for departmental growth.

Know emergency procedure (including CPR) and work to prevent accidents.

Perform other related duties that may be assigned by Management.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years’ experience working as a Banquet Manager/Supervisor, preferably in a high volume banquet or hotel environment.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once.

Experience developing and training employees.

Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers and management.

Strong customer service skills and the ability to resolve customer issues or complaints.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and public holidays.

Must be able to perform multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.

Demonstrate an understanding of food, food ingredients, food prep methods, proper food storage, sanitation requirements and basic bar terminology.

Ability to be able to operate the following: coffee machine, hot box, soda dispenser, Bain Maries, beer taps and related equipment.

Ability to lift, push, pull a minimum of 50lbs.

Ability to use moderately complex computer software.
